Research Officer

Job title : Research Officer (full time)
Position description: Working in Tobacco Control and Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention Program (TC&NCDs Prevention Program) focussing on research
Reports to : TC&NCDs Prevention Program Manager, HealthBridge
Period : Starting as soon as possible, one year contract with possible extension
Main place of work : Hanoi

HealthBridge is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization that works to improve health and health equity among vulnerable populations through research, policy and action. HealthBridge has been operating in Vietnam since 1993 in the areas Health, Nutrition and Food Security; Livable Cities, Gender Equality and Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health; Tobacco Control; Alcohol Control; and Non-Communication Diseases Prevention.

HealthBridge in Vietnam is currently looking for a qualified Vietnamese candidate to fill the position of Research Officer for the project on supporting policy development for a sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) tax and nutrition labels in Vietnam.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Country Director and the Program Manager in developing the protocol, conducting the researches under the project and follow up for results’ dissemination;
  • Literature review of domestic and international researches to propose the best practices and policy recommendations for SSBs tax and nutrition labels in line with the program strategies and workplans;
  • Develop database on SSBs tax and nutrition labels;
  • Closely work with other in- country partners from academic institutions, universities and Government agencies to develop the country profile for SSBs and nutrition labels and support for advocacy documentation;
  • Draft and develop the summary and full research reports and communication/ advocacy material such as fact sheets, policy brief, booklet…
  • Participate in the strategic meetings, program conferences with stakeholders, donors and other partners as requested, prepare and document the key takeaways and share with the team;
  • Draft the monthly and quarterly report of research with specific deliverables to the organization;
  • Maintain an easily accessible archive or reports, study reports for the program;
  • Internal travel if requested;
  • Perform other duties as may be requested by the Program Manager and Country Director.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

  • Master's Degree in Public Health;
  • At least 5 years of experience working on quantitative research, preferably on the areas of nutrition and risk factors of NCDs;
  • Advanced use of software on data management and analysis such as STATA, SPSS…;
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Vietnamese language skills;
  • Ability to perform multitasking under time pressure;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.

Desirable:

  • Experienced in public health research, nutrition program is preferred.
  • Experience in working in international organizations or UN and in Viet Nam in the area relevant to the consultancy work.
