Recruiting TWO Vietnamese Research Assistants

 

To conducting research into the perception of bear welfare held by former and current bear farmers across Vietnam, as part of post-graduate studies into International Animal Welfare, Ethics, and Law of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (http://www.ed.ac.uk/vet/studying/postgraduate/taught-programmes/animal-w...). We are looking for two Vietnamese research assistants, willing to be trained in semi-structured interview techniques, travel throughout Vietnam to interview respondents, and translate responses.

 

The research assistants will travel and work as a pair.

 

Ideally, the research assistants will be based in Hanoi or close by. I am a resident of Vietnam, and based in Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc provice where I head-up the Bear and Veterinary Department at Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre. This is a great opportunity for those interested in research to gain hands on experience in interviewing techniques and research methodology.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Carry out semi-structured interviews (training provided) with at least 50 respondents, based across Vietnam. Travel is a requirement of this position.

  • Translation of interview questions into English and Vietnamese.

  • Data management.

  • Translation of interviews into English.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed or currently-completing undergraduate studies.

  • Willingness to travel throughout Vietnam and to spend time in potentially remote locations.

  • Willingness to attend training in conducting semi-structured interview techniques.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Good computer skills.

  • Ability to work in close partnership with the other research assistant.

  • Good people skills and recognises the importance of confidentiality and ensuring data security.

Terms of employment:

These paid positions will be on a contract basis only. They will suit recent graduates or students completing undergraduate studies.

 

The cost of travel will be paid for by the research project, as will accommodation (where necessary to conduct research).

 

A small telephone allowance will be provided on a per day basis during traveling and interviewing.
