PROVINCIAL AGRONOMY FACILITATORS

SOCODEVI, the Société de coopération pour le développement international, is a network of cooperatives and mutuals that share technical expertise and know-how with partners in developing countries in order to create, protect and distribute wealth. SOCODEVI is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation for international development established in Vietnam since 2002.

The Vietnam Cooperative Development Project (VCED) is a newly Project managed by SOCODEVI and financed by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) of Canada. Project duration is of5 years ending on March 2020.

SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT:

VCED is an important capacity building project that expect to support agricultural cooperative in dairy milk and fruits value chains. This project aims to improve Vietnamese cooperative sector contribution to gender-equitable economic growth and to women and men farmers’ livelihood conditions. To achieve this, VCED Project will work at three different levels:

  1. Establishment and strengthening of sustainable agriculture cooperative enterprises in strategic value chains within the Vietnamese economy to become models of reference for scaling up;
  2. Improvement of productivity and quality of agriculture production in a sustainable manner at the farm (household W/M) level, with value added;
  3. Support the Government and stakeholders of the cooperative sector in the establishment of an enabling environment for the cooperative development.

WORKING PLACE: in one of VCED provinces which is Ben Tre province

DURATION: one year contract with possibility of extension, start in November 2017

GENERAL DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Agronomist Specialist and overall management of the Project Director, the Agronomy Facilitator will be responsible for agronomic activity implementation:

1. Trainings for farmers

  • Provide advisory to partners and farmers on sustainable production of respective commodity, e.g Pomelo in Ben Tre
  • Act as the main trainer in technical trainings using Farmer Field School (FFS) approach.
  • Providing technical advices to farmers during farm visits to promote GAPs
  • Supervise implementing demo plots

2. Quality assurance for Coop’s products

  • Support the development of the Green Pomelo Coop, particularly activities in the Business plan
  • Support to develop Technical Manual to produce targeted products which possess quality required by the Buyers
  • Train Coop members on this Technical Manual according to their bounded contracts with the Coop
  • Providing technical advices to farmers during farm visits to ensure proper adoption
  • Support the Coop to develop Internal Audit Procedure in term of product quality
  • Assist the Coop to perform internal audition in farms

3. Operational responsibilities

  • Contribute to develop work plan and reports periodically
  • Prepare budget estimation, disbursement and settlement for activities in respective province,
  • Entry relevant data to the Database online
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders to complete planed activities
  • Support SOCODEVI specialists and short-term consultants in particular missions
  • Assist other related tasks when needed, for example, activities on environment, value chain, marketing,

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

VCED Project’s Agronomist Facilitators will demonstrate knowledge and skills in coordination, facilitation, training, implementation and monitoring. Agronomist Facilitators will demonstrate strong abilities in developing and facilitating trainings for adults in rural areas.

More specifically knowledge and skills expected are:

  • University Degree in Agriculture or other relevant fields; technical specialisation in respective commodity (green pomelo) would be an advantage
  • At least 3 years of experience in field liaised with technical trainings, and clear proven experience in sustainable production and/or quality certification practices for particular value chain,
  • Practical experience in partnering with government officers and local stakeholders,
  • Fair English skills in communication and writing,
  • Office technology literate (Windows Office, internet, others);
  • Capacity to work both independently and involved in the team
  • Be active and responsible for activity implementation
