Within the environmental policy and natural resource use cluster a number of regional initiatives on regional trade integration are bundled under the ASEAN Regional Economic Integration (ASEAN REI) portfolio. The project team in Hanoi is in charge of the implementation of the Viet Nam based activities of among others these BMZ financed regional projects:

  • Promotion of Sustainable Agricultural Value Chains in ASEAN (AgriTrade): Compiling lessons learnt on the implementation of standards on quality and sustainability in the CLMV countries and improving private sector involvement in their development. Conducting awareness campaigns on the health and ecological benefits of sustainable agricultural products.
  • Support of Regional Economic Cooperation in Asia (SRECA) aims at enhancing the access of SMEs to trade-related services and strengthening the structures for cross-border cooperation between the focus countries and China.
  • German Coffee Innovation Fund (CIF): Through the fund innovative concepts by entrepreneurs in the coffee value chain are promoted through integrated development partnerships.

The ASEAN REI projects work both on the regional level with ASEC in Jakarta and on country level with a focus on Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. The political partners in Vietnam are the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VietTrade).

The project is looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the following position:

Project Officer Agricultural Trade Promotion
Duty station: Hanoi, Vietnam
Duration: 01 December 2019 until 31 July 2021 with possibility for extension

Main tasks:

  • Assists and supports in overall project coordination and preparation of work plans for the Viet Nam activities in close coordination with the national project partners (MARD, VietTrade);
  • Prepares ToR for and supports the implementation of national and international short-term consultant missions;
  • Participates in meetings and workshops related to agriculture trade sector
  • Responsible for the preparation and organization of workshops, capacity building measures and dialogue events under the three projects;
  • Provides technical guidance regarding trade in agricultural products
  • Oversees and steers the collaboration with further donors and partners in Vietnam in the field of Agriculture and export promotion
  • To officially represent GIZ and its project portfolio towards the ministries and private sector organizations in
  • Support to project monitoring and regularly updating information on project progress and the status of results;
  • Assist with PR work for the projects;
  • Any other administrative and technical tasks as required by the Team Leader

Minimum requirements:

  • Masters/Bachelor degree in an area that is relevant to achieve the program objectives (e.g. Business administration, Economics, Agriculture and Trade);
  • Experience in working with GIZ or other international funded projects with focus on agricultural trade.
    Experience with the private sector is a plus;
  • At least 3-5 years professional experience in a comparable position;
  • Good knowledge of the national standard system for agricultural trade in Vietnam (Accreditation, certification, laboratories, framework conditions);
  • High work ethics, reliable and motivated, able to handle multiple simultaneous assignments with competing priorities under the condition of tight time schedules and fixed deadlines;
  • Excellent organizational skills; efficient, accurate and high-quality delivery of all work-related output;
  • Fluency in Vietnamese and English (written and spoken) is required;
  • Experience in networking with agencies, service providers, and public partners;
