Project Director

Abt Associates, a major American business and government research, technical assistance, and consulting company, seeks qualified candidates for the position of project director of the USAID Avian and Pandemic Influenza Initiative. The Avian and Pandemic Influenza Initiative is an ongoing project which aims to build the capacity of the Government of Vietnam (GVN) and its counterparts to identify, prevent, and control influenza outbreaks in both animals and humans.  The project leverages village, commune, district and provincial implementation experiences to provide evidence for planners and policy makers. This is done in close consultation with other key players such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations and the Partnership on Avian and Human Influenza (PAHI) in Vietnam. By sharing lessons learned and advocating for wider adoption of new approaches the project supports the replication and scaling up of promising models in areas such as: multi-sector community-based surveillance; infection control and case management in district hospitals; provincial level pandemic preparedness planning; demonstration models for improved bio-security, bio-safety and risk reduction in poultry supply chains; development of public-private animal health networks; and piloting of bio-security certification schemes.

The Project Director will provide leadership, management, and strategic direction for the project team, ensuring the responsiveness and quality of work, the efficient use of resources, managing client relations, and achievement of results. Specifically s/he will promote teamwork and collaboration within the project team and with other implementing partners and counterparts.  Qualified candidates should have an advanced degree in veterinary medicine, public health, epidemiology or a related field and 15 years of experience, including demonstrated project leadership.  Experience scaling up interventions or rolling out models is highly desirable, as is experience working with USAID.
