Post-Harvest & Volunteer Coordinator

ACDI/VOCA is a non-profit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development and food security in order to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil society. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA has empowered people in developing and transitional nations to succeed in the global economy for 45 years and in 145 countries. In Vietnam, with funding from USAID, ACDI/VOCA is implementing the Sustainable Cocoa Farmers project. To date, ACDI/VOCA has introduced cocoa best agricultural practices to over 22,000 smallholder farmers in 6 provinces in the South and Central Highlands of Vietnam. We are seeking an experienced person to work as the Post-Harvest and Volunteer Coordinator (PVC) for the ACDI/VOCA Vietnam Office. The estimated start date for this position is February, 2012 to work through March 30, 2014 with a possibility of extension based on the availability of funding.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Post-Harvest & Volunteer Coordinator (PVC) is responsible for all of the cocoa-quality-focused activities, the activities related to the development of post-harvest technical training and project outreach to connect cocoa farmers to the world market. The PVC role entails the coordination of the works related to volunteer activities of the Project.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinate for the establishment of commercial fermentaries in Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces & the development of post-harvest fermentation protocols & the extension of these protocols to targeted farmers.
2. Coordinate project outreach activities in Lam Dong and Dak Lak as set in annual implementation plans.
3. Propose new strategies, activities related to project outreach.
4. Collect information and data pertaining to industry development, including numbers of farmers and locations of cocoa production, processing and fermentation facilities and their location, number and contact of collectors and traders in cocoa, and the activity of exporters.
5. Coordinate the work of project with cocoa quality laboratories in Ben Tre and Dak Lak
6. Provide and/or coordinate training to the Project team, local partners, and farmers as needed in the areas of cocoa market development, post-harvest processing and fermentation.
7. Coordinate and support relevant consultant and volunteer assignments for post-harvest processing, and cocoa bean quality issues:
- Provide consultant/volunteer with appropriate background material.
- Organize consultant/volunteer support (translator, driver, etc.)
- Schedule consultant/volunteer activities and workplan.
8. Work with cocoa industrial partners and local partners to design and recommend models for cocoa linkage that could be utilizing and replicating.
9. Cultivate relationships with potential host organizations, develop volunteer assignments, and provide logistical support to the volunteer while in country and monitor follow-up activities with the host as recommended by the volunteer.

Reporting Responsibilities
The PVC will report directly to the Chief of Party and will write and/or contribute to project reports as necessary.

DUTY STATION
Ho Chi Minh City, with frequent travel to project sites

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master Degree in related fields.
- At least 5 years’ experiences in agriculture development works.
- Knowledge and experience in post-harvest processing
- Experience with foreign non-governmental organizations,
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Ability to travel frequently to project sites
- Good computer skills.
- Good teamwork, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
