CONTEXT

IECD was created in 1988 and is driven by the desire to show solidarity with people in need. IECD has progressively established itself in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia, including Vietnam since 2010. Education and vocational training are at the core of IECD teams’ actions, convinced that these are the keys to human development. Indeed, their mission is to promote development by strengthening peoples’ abilities and those of local partners.

La Boulangerie Française HCMC (aka The French Bakery), a social enterprise by IECD, aims to train vulnerable young people to become highly skilled bakers and responsible adults, socially well integrated and independent. The high-quality bakery products made during their intensive training are sold to customers and the revenue generated contribute directly to financing the school’s operations, with the objective to become self-sustainable.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary: Pedagogical Coordinator (PC) will act as a pedagogical leader of the program in the Training Centre. The Pedagogical Coordinator has a pivotal role in this process, taking responsibility for ensuring that pedagogical aspects are discussed, information is disseminated and the program is planned, taught and assessed collaboratively. Together with other members of the Training Centre staff, the Pedagogical Coordinator is involved in the training implementation, organization and execution of the day-to-day Training Centre life. Besides maintaining contact with TDC Coordinator, the PC should communicate directly and closely with every student and with all members of the teaching staff.

The PC has also an important role for building and maintaining close relationships with professionals (Bakeries, Pastries, Hotel...) to ensure that pedagogical curricula match with their needs and that every student will find a relevant and durable job upon their graduation.

1. COORDINATION

  • Maintain an effective communication system within the Pedagogical Team and ensure efficient information flow between both internal and external relevant parties
  • Elaborate and organise training plans, student's evaluation & students’ attendance
  • Assist the Project Manager in the planning and organizing of Training Centre practical training and academic affairs including coordination and management of English classes, Practical classes, Technology and Life skills classes
  • Actively participate in the supervision and management of instructors (Meeting, information management, goal setting, training, evaluation...)

2. REPORTING

  • Publish a report on P.C. activities (life skill, recruitment, students) periodically.
  • Working with communication staff when organize the activities for students

3. DORMITORY MANAGEMENT

Ensure close relationships with TDC Dormitory Manager to get a perfect overview of students’ life outside the school (Health, Food, Cleaning, Security, Activity)

4. LIFE SKILLS TEACHING

  • For each topic of the curriculum, prepare a detailed lesson plan. Lesson plan must include introduction, activities through guided practice & independent practice and assessment.
  • Conduct sessions trough a lively and participative approach for the students including activities & games
  • Develop the network of the life skills program by visiting and meeting other projects/schools/NGOs to find external trainers and resources.
  • Work together with the teachers of technical curriculum through regular meeting to connect life skills and professional skills and insure coherence of the program.

5. STUDENTS LIFE

  • In collaboration with the Project Manager, participate in every operation related to the well-being of our students in their daily life within and outside of the Training Centre (Scholarship, Personal Development activities, Life Skills lessons, Leisure...)
  • Coordinate and ensure the monthly individual follow up of each student, on a professional and personal standpoint.
  • Organize monthly group meetings with the students.
  • Organize class councils with the teachers corps
  • Ensure the follow up of the students after training at least twice a year and animate the alumni community.
  • Recruit (interview, select and integrate) the students to be enrolled into the program
  • Organize new students’ arrival and present rules of Training Centre
  • Build and maintain close relationships with potential students’ employers (Hotels, Bakeries...)
  • Plan, organize, supervise, control and report on Students Internships
  • Organize and conduct visits within bakeries, pastries and hotel
  • Perform other tasks and duties assigned by PM

WE WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU ARE

  • a people person and a team player
  • a bachelor degree holder in Education, Social Work or Psychology
  • an experienced pedagogical leader with 2 years experience in education or social work
  • organised and able to develop a curriculum
  • computer literate and able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint...
  • familiar with multi-cultural working environment
  • proficient in spoken and written English and Vietnamese
  • willing to learn, dynamic, reliable and capable to adapt and react quickly
  • a foodie and a French Gastronomy enthusiast

Working time: 5 days per week (flexible)
Place: TDC, occasional out of office work
Compensation: according to profile and experience
Contract duration: 2 years
You would work hand-in-hand with an international team of Project Manager, food professionals, young adults, a team of educators and university staffs.
