Laboratory Specialist

The Food and Agricultural Products Quality Development and Control Project (FAPQDC) funded by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) during 2008-2013 has been implemented by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with University of Montreal, Canada. The general objective of the FAPQDC project is to improve the quality, safety and marketability of agricultural food products through strengthened application of good production practices (GPP) and quality control systems. The FAPQDC project is looking for a Vietnamese Laboratory Specialist. The selected candidate will work full-time at the Project Management Unit (PMU) starting June/July 2011 for a one-year contract with extension possibility.
LABORATORY SPECIALIST

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Facilitates and participates in the development and monitoring of annual laboratory upgrading plans.
- Provides technical assistance to assess laboratories' performance with technical considerations in line with compliance plans (ISO 17025 requirements) .
- Coordinates and leads the implementation of laboratory upgrading plans, harmonization surveillance and management of data base for pilot project samples' analysis results.
- Coordinates the analysis of samples generated in the pilot projects.
- Participates in all aspects of SOPs (Standards Operation Procedures) shipping samples, analysis, data collection, data analysis and reporting for quality evaluation of pilot projects.
- Collaborates closely with Canadian experts, provides assistance in technical support for food safety enforcement in pilot projects.
- Works closely with technical committees in the validation of laboratory quality activities and participates in the review and update of the current legislative/regulatory, and facilitate audit, inspection and certification for the commodities of the pilot projects.
- Responsible of communication among stakeholders of the project
- Assists, monitors and coordinates with relevant competent authorities in revision/development of law and regulations related to food safety and quality
- Carries out other relevant duties as assigned by the Project.

Requirements:
- B.Sc. degree in food technologies, microbiology, chemistry or relevant field (M.Sc. degree could be an advantage)
- From 7-10 years working experience in laboratory quality assurance, food and agricultural products quality and safety control, survey and  data collection/analysis.
- Willing and be able to frequently travel to provinces within Vietnam
- Good interpersonal, communication, organizational and team work skills as well as work independently
- Excellent written and spoken English and Vietnamese.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
