Interpreter; Technical Officer

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) was established on 1 January 2011. It brings together under one roof the long-standing expertise of the German Development Service (DED), the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and InWEnt – Capacity Building International, Germany. As a federally owned enterprise, it supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We are also engaged in international education work around the globe.

GIZ operates in many fields, including economic development and employment; governance and democracy; security, reconstruction, peace building and civil conflict transformation; food security, health and basic education; and environmental protection, resource conservation and climate change mitigation.

For many years, Viet Nam has been a priority partner country for German Development Cooperation. Projects and programmes cover the following three priority areas of cooperation, which are closely interlinked with the overarching goal of Poverty Reduction: 1) Sustainable Economic Development and Vocational Training; 2) Environmental Policy, Natural Resources and Urban Development; and 3) Health.

The GIZ Project Management of Natural Resources in the Coastal Zone of Soc Trang Province aims to improve the protection of the coastal wetlands and to ensure at the same time that poor local communities benefit both economically and ecologically from sustainable management and utilisation of coastal areas. To achieve this objective the project assists local authorities and stakeholders with adaptation to climate change, mangrove rehabilitation and management, co-management, income generation along value chains, environmental education and capacity building. All this is done within the framework of an integrated approach to coastal zone management.

To support these activities the GIZ Coastal Zone Management Project is seeking two qualified and experienced Vietnamese candidates for the following positions:

a, Interpreter

Duty Station: Soc Trang
Main responsibilities:

Interpretation during meetings, field trips and other occasions
Translating documents 
Participate in data entry and data analysis for monitoring of training and other project activities
Closely cooperate/collaborate with project staff and consultants
Assisting in the preparation of trainings/workshop materials and layout documents for project meetings

Minimum qualifications:
University degree in English
Good translation/interpretation skills for English and Vietnamese; specific knowledge of technical
terms used in development assistance is an asset.
At least 3 years of working experience, ideally working with NGOs or ODA projects.
Highly motivated and able to work under high pressure and within a limited time frame. 
Good skills in IT Office applications such as WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Outlook
Excellent communication skills

b, Technical Officer

Duty Station: Soc Trang

Main responsibilities:
Assisting the Chief Technical Advisor and/or other experts s/he is assigned to in their technical tasks
Conducting specific research needed for the project planning or implementation
Carrying out specific tasks concerning the knowledge management in the project
Supporting the project team in implementing project activities

Minimum qualifications:
University degree in environmental science, forestry or related field
Minimum 3 years of professional working experience in a similar position
Experiences in project management
Research experience in a field of expertise related to the project’s needs
Highly motivated and able to work under high pressure and within a limited time frame. 
Good skills in IT Office applications such as WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Outlook
Knowledge of GIS, SQL database and web page programming will be an advantage
Language skills (fluency in English)
