The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research is affiliated with the University of Sydney in Australia and is recognized as one of the leading research institutions for respiratory diseases and sleep disorders. Operating in Vietnam since 2009, we have undertaken large operational, epidemiological and clinical research projects and run training in epidemiological and operational research methods for Vietnamese doctors and public health workers. The Woolcock Institute has three research centres and offices in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Ca Mau. Currently we directly employ about 50 full-time staff and coordinates multiple study projects within lung health management and treatment across eleven provinces. We also expand research activity to other fields including antimicrobial resistance.

Overview: This project evaluates an integrated health-sector strategy to combat COPD and asthma in Vietnam (V-CAPS) in 4 provinces and cities including Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Ca Mau and An Giang.

Location: Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Ca Mau and An Giang (one person per province)

Duration: 06 months appointment, with consideration for subsequent extension.

Roles: To support the implementation of the study on COPD/asthma and smoking (VCAPS).

Direct report:

VCAPS Study Manager, Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, and, through this person to the Chief Investigators of the study and Dr Thu Anh Nguyen, the Country Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in relevant training courses and workshops related to VCAPS study on COPD and smoking cessation, to learn and fully understand the study protocols and procedures
  • Support the preparation for VCAPS study implementation process (study supply, consumables, training course materials, ect)
  • Contribute to the implementation of a randomised controlled trial of VCAPS starting early 2020:
    • Perform data collection and enter data into designed system correctly and completely
    • Carry out data quality check upon request
  • Translate project document upon request
  • Create and maintain relations with partners for Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in general and in the field
  • Communicate and report any issues occurred in implementation timely with the study manager for solutions
  • Other duties if required.
  • Have a sufficient driving licence and be able to travel as required by VCAPS study manager.
