Intern for LGBTI Project

In Vietnam, Oxfam is recognized as one of the leading international Non-Governmental Organizations, especially in rural development, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response, civil society development, ethnic minorities, and women’s empowerment.

We are looking for a Vietnamese citizen to fill the following position:

INTERN FOR LGBTI PROJECT

Oxfam offers an internship program for young Vietnamese graduates who are passionate about Oxfam's mission of working with others to overcome poverty, suffering and injustice. Selected intern will provide administrative support to the team, gain essential office skills, and take part in project activities as well as a number of training opportunities. They will gain invaluable working experience that benefits their future employment. Internship contract lasts for 12 months.

Project Overview:

The overall objective of this European Commission (EC) funded project is that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people in Vietnam no longer suffer from any forms of discrimination and enjoy all human rights endorsed internationally.

Starting time:        July 2015
Location:         Hanoi, Vietnam with occasional travel to project areas
Report to:    Project Manager (PM)
Allowance:     According to Oxfam’s intern policy; when travel to project site required intern will receive the same travel allowance as other project team members.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Support PM, project team and other agencies in project implementation, including planning, reporting and monitoring of project activities;
2.Support PM in ensuring project implementation meeting donor’s requirements, particularly in visibility and deadlines;
3.Logistic support in organizing project events such as workshops, seminars, training courses, etc.;
4.Support documentation of project activities, particularly the application of digital technology for creative reporting (bi-annually, annually or after events);
5.Contact project partners, consultants and other stakeholders in relevant activities;
6.Support translation and interpretation when required (Vietnamese – English and vice versa)
7.Be in charge of general administration (filing documents, booking, circulating mail, fax, photocopying, scanning);
8.Search and provide data that serve as a basis for day-to-day implementation process;
9.Join field trips when required;
10.Others as appropriate.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE

Expected Requirements:

  • Vietnamese citizen, University degree;
  • Basic understanding of LGBTIs and their related issues; members of LGBTI communities are encouraged to apply;
  • Good computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, Ms. Outlook, PowerPoint);
  • Good knowledge of digital application for creative reporting, documentation;
  • Good command of English, including interpretation and translation from Vietnamese to English and vice-versa;
  • Commitment and inspiration to work in development areas;
  • Some knowledge of development work, but not essential.

Behavioral competencies:

  • Good communication, presentation skills (especially in working with people from different backgrounds);
  • Good teamwork skills (supporting others, delegation, influencing, negotiating);
  • Ability to work independently as well as in the team;
  • Respect diversity and differences.

Learning opportunities:

  • Taking part in relevant project events (internal training, meetings, workshops, etc.);
  • Taking part in monitoring and evaluation missions as appropriate;
  • Opportunities to gain working skills and experience in an international non-governmental organization and for an EC funded project;
  • Induction to financial management system of Oxfam and EC funded project;
  • Developing career development plan and review regularly with line-manager
