Job description: Health Economics Postdoctoral Research Position, VRESIST study

Organisation: Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Vietnam The Woolcock Institute is leading international lung health research organisation, affiliated with the University of Sydney in Australia (https://sydney.edu.au/). The Woolcock Institute has operated in Vietnam since 2009, we undertake large and important operational and epidemiological and clinical research projects in 11 Provinces, including Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. The Woolcock also runs training in epidemiological and operational research methods for Vietnamese doctors and public health workers.

Overview: This year, the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research starts a 3-year study on Combating the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistant infectious diseases in Viet Nam (V-RESIST). We are seeking applications for a research fellow / post-doctoral researcher in the field of health economics.

Position summary:

The postgraduate scholar will work with key investigators of the study and the V-RESIST study team in Vietnam. The position will contribute to all aspects of the health economic aspects of this research, including conceptualization, study designs, measures, planning and carrying out analyses, and disseminating findings.

This position will also actively engage with relevant stakeholders and assist their efforts to create practical change.

This position will have chance to work with leading experts and researchers from Australia (the University of Sydney) and Vietnam (National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and other partners) in the field of antimicrobial resistance.

Location: Based in Hanoi, with regular travel to 4 provinces of this study, and internationally

Duration: This position will be a one year (12 month) position, with possibility for a one year renewal. The position is designated as a full-time post, although applications for it to be made part-time may be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with research team to develop and provide inputs for study protocols and tools of the health economics components of the study
  • Supervise the implementation of the health economics sub studies as assigned by the Trial Steering Committee
  • Monitor the data collection process to ensure high data quality
  • Participate in data analysis for the sub studies within the project
  • Participate in report writing for assigned sub studies
  • Participate in regular meetings to discuss study progress with Chief Investigators
  • Take lead in health economics aspects of the project, and be responsible for data collection, analysis and report writing under the supervision of Investigators
  • Participate in relevant workshops, meetings within the study and of other relevant projects
  • Liaise with members of the research team and key stakeholders to build capacity and knowledge
  • Take the lead in developing health economics research publications in the assigned research areas, and contribute to research publications of the whole study
  • Communication with the V-RESIST Study Manager, and the Investigators on data collection process, results and issues if any
  • Working closely with the Study Manager, the Country Director, and Investigators
  • Performance of Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications

  • Medical doctor, economics or other health-related degree, is required
  • Hold a PhD degree, or equivalent, in health economics or a related field

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in conducting health economics research
  • IELTS of 6.5 or above
