About the Granny Program

Spence-Chapin’s Granny Program is an international humanitarian aid program which was established in 1998. Since its inception we have operated the Granny Program in six countries on four continents and have served over 1,000 children.

The Granny Program pairs children living in institutions with “Grannies” who provide them with daily, individualized attention and care. Grannies meet daily with their assigned child to promote the child’s growth and development. This is done through direct care, play and skill-building exercises.

Spence-Chapin is seeking to establish the Granny Program within Vietnam to serve children who are living in institutional care throughout the country.

Job Description: Spence-Chapin is seeking a consultant to support in the agency’s research and application to establish the Granny Program within Vietnam. Responsibilities include:

  • Research and identify licensed orphanages which are appropriate sites for the Granny Program
  • Introduce and promote the Granny Program to licensed orphanages
  • Research and identify the governmental applications, steps, and approvals necessary to operate the Granny Program in Vietnam
  • Liaise with government officials and other professionals in Vietnam who can assist in launching the Granny Program
  • Translate Granny Program information and materials from English into Vietnamese
  • Collaborate with Spence-Chapin on submitting any required written proposals, and/or applications for permitting
  • Once approval has been obtained for the program to operate within a specified orphanage, recruit Grannies and a Granny Coordinator
  • Other tasks as directed

There is potential for this consultant role to become a full-time employment role if the Granny Program is successfully established within Vietnam.

Key Competencies

  • Fluency in English and Vietnamese
  • Familiarity with the child welfare system in Vietnam
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to navigate bureaucracies to achieve Program goals in compliance with regulation
  • Strong organizational skills
