Agriteam is currently recruiting a Gender & Food Safety Expert for an upcoming Food Safety & Agri-Food Value Chain project in Vietnam.  The objective of the project is to improve the performance of national and sub-national governments in enforcing food safety regulations; to increase competitiveness of Vietnamese agri-food products domestically and internationally; and to increase consumer demand for safe agri-food in Vietnam. The project will operate across the agri-food value chain by engaging and building the capacity of three main target groups: the public sector (enabling environment), the private sector (supply side), and the consumer (demand side).

The Gender & Food Safety Expert will be a part-time, consultancy position based in Canada or Vietnam with travel to Vietnam. S/he will provide technical assistance and professional advice on matters related to integrating gender equality principles in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the Project, provide input to the preparation of key Project documents; and ensure the integration of gender equality in Project results.


  • Master’s Degree in gender studies, gender and development, or a related field;

  • Recent professional development (training, certification, degree/diploma, publications, research) related to gender studies, gender and development, women’s economic empowerment, agronomics, value chains, commerce, economics or business;

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience providing gender equality advice or technical assistance in the context of food safety, food value chains, and/or agro-processing initiatives;

  • Experience providing institutional capacity building in gender equality;

  • Experience applying principles of results-based management and risk management;

  • Experience managing complex multi-stakeholder relations, working with a diverse group of stakeholders ranging from government departments, donors, farmers/producers, processors, and distributors ;

  • Demonstrated experience working in Vietnam or in the region;

  • Knowledge of Canadian and Vietnamese institutions, agencies, universities, private sector companies and ministries involved in food safety;

  • Must be fluent in English;

  • Must be Vietnamese citizen, permanent resident, or holding a valid Vietnam work permit.
