Brot für die Welt (BftW) is the globally active development and relief agency of the Protestant Churches in Germany. The organization is a member of various national and international networks and works closely with other aid agencies. The Regional BftW Office in Hanoi is supporting local partner organisations in Vietnam and Laos in supporting people to overcome poverty and strive for an inclusive socio-economic development with thematic focus on food security and nutrition, value chain development, climate adaptation and mitigation, disaster preparedness and response, biodiversity, agroecology. We also work on additional areas such as clean water and health, education, human trafficking, and gender equality.

The Regional Office of Brot für die Welt in Hanoi is looking for a

Freelance Finance Professional

interested in providing support to the Vietnam regional office of Brot für die Welt in:

 

  • Assisting BftW’s partners in Laos to change reporting currency for the BftW’s projects from LAK to USD/EUR.
  • Designing and delivering a series of coaching/trainings to non-profit organisations partners in Vietnam and Laos in financial management and compliance with BftW and back donor requirements.
  • Designing and delivering a series of capacity building trainings for BftW regional office staff in Vietnam in financial management and compliance with BftW and back donor requirements.
  • Providing a question-and-answer service relating to these areas.
  • Performing selected cold file reviews of audit files from the audit firms for BftW’s projects to assess audit quality and deliver refresh training for auditors if needed.

Time period: 6.2023 – 12.2025 with annual visiting/coaching/training in Laos and Vietnamup to 30 days per year

Required knowledge and experience:

 

  • Deep knowledge on BftW and back-donor financial and other compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with contractual documents for BftW funding cooperations.
  • Deep understanding of BftW audit requirements and audit firm reference lists.
  • The limits of audit methodologies when applied to the audit of BftW funded projects.
  • Budgets, budget monitoring and control in terms of national and foreign currencies, exchange rate development and its budget impact.
  • Monitoring the BftW and other donors co-funding ratios over a project period.
  • The practical difficulties of managing projects with multiple sources of donor funding.
  • The cash accounting basis and permitted modifications.
  • Fund request, cash flow planning and cash flow management.
  • Updated economy development in Laos and Vietnam.
  • Compliance issues and experience in working with non-profit organizations in Laos and Vietnam.

Required education and skills:

  • University degree (BA/MA) in business administration, majoring in accounting and ideally with advanced education as a Certified Internal Auditor/Qualified Chartered Accountant
  • At least 10 years of proven experience in the described areas
  • Excellent knowledge on international audit standards and international financial, especially German donor requirements
  • Highly familiar with financial management mechanism and instruments of non-profit Organisations
  • Proven experience with BftW and BMZ standards and requirements
  • Excellent consultancy and training skills and experience, especially ability to present complex issues in a simple way.
  • Intercultural and gender sensitivity
  • Fluent in English, Vietnamese and/or Lao language will be an asset
