Position: Education and Communication Officer

FOUR PAWS Viet is a Vietnamese NGO - partner of FOUR PAWS International, an animal welfare organization founded in 1988 with the Headquarter in Vienna, Austria, and offices in 15 other countries. FOUR PAWS strives to help animals in need with sustainable campaigns and projects, focusing on animals that are directly under human influence such as stray dogs and stray cats, farm animals, companions animals and wild animals kept in inappropriate conditions.

BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh - an animal welfare project by FOUR PAWS, is located in Ky Phu commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province. The sanctuary allows greater governmental enforcement of the existing laws prohibiting the abuse of bears for bile extraction, by providing a place for any confiscated or voluntarily handed over bears to be taken to and cared for appropriately. The 1st construction phase of BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh on 3.6 ha of land has been completed and is now home for 32 Asiatic black bears. In the next few years the sanctuary will be expanded to 10 ha and will provide a species-appropriate habitat for around 100 bears.

Asian Wild Animal Sanctuary is FOUR PAWS’ new project which is in the conceptual phase. The project is planned on the land of 31,64 ha and home for about 250 animals of different species. It is 3 km from the BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh, in the National Wild Animal Park project on Ninh Binh province.

Position: Education and Communication Officer (m/f)
Fulltime / BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh, Ky Phu commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province

Summary/ Objectives:

You, as Communication and Education Officer, are responsible for the implementation of FOUR PAWS Viet’s communication plans, supporting the coordination of the Volunteer Program and supporting the implementing educational concepts with focus on wild animal protection, environment and nature conservation, demand reduction and animal welfare.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement Four Paws Viet’s communication plans.
    • Create content covering Four Paws Viet and Bear Sanctuary Ninh Binh news and projects for online and offline platforms.
    • Support the BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh signage system content management.
    • Support the coordination of FOUR PAWS Viet’s communication print materials.
    • Arrange and maintain FOUR PAWS Viet digital materials library.
  • Coordinate and implement volunteer activities.
    • Follow up volunteer recruitment, paperwork, and feedback.
    • Coordinate volunteer’s logistics.
    • Coordinate internal communication amongst volunteers and departments and external communications channels.
    • Maintain relationship with volunteers and creating online and offline forum for FOUR PAWS Viet’s volunteer network.
  • Support the coordination and promotion of FOUR PAWS’s existing education programs such as: Youth Engagement Program and Conservation Awareness Program.
    • Support the delivery of workshop/training activities
    • Support the production of educational digital and print materials.
    • Create online and offline communication for networking with students
    • Manage the production of photos, videos and any form of media captured throughout the activities for report and promotion purposes.
  • Support the coordination and promotion of education programs on nature conservation, wildlife product demand reduction and animal welfare for BEAR SACNTUARY Ninh Binh and FOUR PAWS Viet.
    • Research, study and improve the content education programs on nature conservation, wildlife product demand reduction and animal welfare.
    • Create content for programs proposals and profiles for collaboration and fundraising purposes.
    • Coordinate education programs’ events and activities
    • Create online and offline communication for networking with programs’ audiences
    • Manage the production of photos, videos and any form of media captured throughout the activities for report and promotion purposes.

Additional / individual duties (optional):

  • Translate documents from English into Vietnamese and vice versa when required.
  • Supporting foreign staff members and partners on site when needed.
  • Deliver educational tour when possible/needed.
  • Purchasing for Education and Communication Unit.

Requirements:

  • Holding relevant bachelor or master’s degree in environment, biology or education.
  • Knowledge on Vietnam wildlife, conservation issues and constant research on relevant topics is a must.
  • Experienced in designing, developing and implementing education programs is an advantage.
  • Experienced in public relation, communications and event management is an advantage.
  • Good communication skills and coordinating skills
  • Very good written and spoken English and Vietnamese
  • Computer literacy (MS Office requested)
  • Experience in animal welfare work is an advantage
  • High level of responsibility and personal drive
  • Willingness to travel
