Driver

The British Embassy in Hanoi is part of a world-wide network of 230 Posts, representing British political, defence, economic, trade and consular interests around the world. We are currently looking to recruit an individual for the full-time position of Driver.  The successful applicant will be employed on a one year contract basis with the possibility of a permanent position thereafter.

Duties and Responsibilities

The main purpose of the job is to provide a safe and courteous transport service and other administrative support work for our office as well.

Transportation                                                                                                                     

  • Provide driving service to Embassy staff, visiting officials and guests
  • Share the rota for driving in the evenings
  • Manage the Embassy’s car journey log and booking
  • Keep cars clean and tidy
  • Daily mail delivery

Vehicle administration

  • Responsible for maintenance and inspection of Embassy cars
  • Monitor the budget for car maintenance                                                         

Others                                                                                                                               

  • Be in charge of taxi cards/vouchers and reconciliation of taxi receipts for payment
  • Arrange application forms and supporting documents for tarmac access and VIP visits                    
  • Be in charge of car registering, purchasing of new Embassy vehicle, sale of old vehicles
  • Moving small furniture and office equipments in and outside the Embassy office when required
  • Provide back-up when required e.g. applying for UK officers’ driving licences, coordinating with forwarding agents to receive/send UK officers’ baggage, customs clearance for receiving mails/parcels
  • Other administrative tasks as assigned by Corporate Services team e.g. photocopying, scanning invoices, etc.

Essential skills required

  • Possess a clean police record and a full clean valid driving licence
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, on the phone and in writing
  • Good knowledge of the roads and location of government offices in Hanoi and main roads to other parts of the country
  • Physically fit with excellent eyesight
  • Good driver customer service protocols and proactive organisational skills
  • Working knowledge of mechanical skills needed to maintain vehicles in a roadworthy condition

Desirable skills required

  • Fluent in Vietnamese (written and spoken)
  • Formal training as an official driver
  • Experience of driving VIPs and using defensive driving techniques

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including salary, benefits, a leave entitlement and training package.  Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided for the successful candidate. This may include training in the region. The successful candidate will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy as soon as possible.
