The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is a Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 700 million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and children.

Country Representative, Vietnam

GAIN is seeking a Country Representative to deliver our programs for large-scale food fortification and infant and child feeding and to further develop and lead our programming in Vietnam.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a focal point for donors and implementing partners for GAIN’s flagship programs in Vietnam. Build relationships with key stakeholders, including within government institutions, the donor community, NGOs and food companies.
  • Working with private-sector and government partners, support delivery of GAIN’s two ongoing programs to a high standard.
  • Develop GAIN’s country-level nutrition strategy in Vietnam and identify short and mid-term opportunities for impact, in line with GAIN’s global strategy and comparative advantage.
  • Mobilize resources from the public sector and private foundations to assure the continuation and expansion of GAIN’s initial efforts in Vietnam.
  • Develop new projects and proposals in collaboration with GAIN’s initiatives and program development team. Potential areas include agriculture and emergency nutrition.
  • Contribute to the development of a knowledge base on GAIN’s portfolio, especially in Vietnam, and on national and regional trends in nutrition and related issues that might impact on GAIN programming.
  • Contribute expertise to teams created by GAIN to address specific issues at regional or global levels.

Experience

  • At least fifteen years’ experience in developing and managing projects in a multi-cultural environment, preferably at international level in the private sector, food industry, government or international organizations.
  • Experience in delivering public health programs in Vietnam and Southeast Asia region is critical; delivery of nutrition or food fortification programs is an asset.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and in a matrix structure.
  • Experience of delivery programs and building and leading teams in a start-up environment is critical.
  • Proven track record in resource mobilization with government and private donors.

  • Ability to use initiative, to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Clear and systematic thinking that demonstrates good judgment, expert problem solving and creativity
  • Strong communication skills in multicultural, multi-lingual environments
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-cultural team
  • Excellent analytical skills

 

Education

  • Master’s Degree in food science, nutrition, public health, economics, business administration or a suitable equivalent

Other requirements

  • Fluency in Vietnamese and in English
  • Willingness and ability to travel globally
