I.        Background

ECODIT is implementing the USAID Green Annamites Project (the Project) in Quang Nam (QN) and Thua Thien Hue (TTH) provinces in central Vietnam. The purpose of the USAID Green Annamites Project is to assist Vietnam’s transition to climate-smart, low emission, and resilient development that protects people, landscapes, and biodiversity in Vietnam’s priority forested provinces. The project’s overall period of performance is September 26, 2016 to December 16, 2020, subject to the availability of funding, and includes three main tasks

  • Task 1. Increase application of low emissions land use
  • Task 2. Strengthen biodiversity conservation
  • Task 3. Increase the resilience of vulnerable communities

The Project is entering to the fourth year of its implementation and during the last year, additional efforts are being put into compiling impacts/achievements, lessons learned and implementing experiences of its successful activities. Through a package of well-designed booklets/leaflets rich in content-, this knowledge will be transferred to target audiences including governmental partners, private sector, donors, communities’ leaders and wider public who have interest in the Project’s work. These publications will be delivered directly to target audiences and distributed/displayed in various events, workshops and the Project’s closing events.

Therefore, The Project is in need of a talented Content writing/editing Consultant to create compelling impact publications and success stories reflecting achieved results and impacts of some Project activities.

II.        Description of Services

1.    Objectives

  • Contents of 4 booklets/leaflets are fully developed (in Vietnamese)
  • Contents of 2 other booklets/leaflets are edited/proof read and/or improved (in Vietnamese)

2.    Activities to be implemented

The consultant should implement following activities

  • Based on the given outline and primary technical inputs proved by technical staff, review all the related documents to understand more about each activity and obtain necessary information for writing/editing
  • Develop and/or edit manuscripts that is well-researched, accurate, clear, consist and readable or the intended audience
  • Develop the success story for each activity.  If not available yet, the consultant should work with Project staff to identify the characters, content gaps and to collect the required information and materials for the write-ups.
  • In consultation with the communication specialists, assemble and fully develop all sections following the outline provided by The Project, adding/editing boxes of interest, tables and charts, etc., bringing the manuscript to full completion including all necessary components of a booklet/leaflet (table of contents, foreword, tables, annexes, boxes, etc. depending on the approved design);
  • Ensure all references are in order, requesting source information for tables and figures, copyright of photos, important facts and figures when such information is missing;
  • Ensure incorporation of timely feedback from internal peer reviewers into the draft manuscript;
  • Proof-read the final texts as laid out by the designer to ensure both text and associated graphics are error free and ready for printing.

This consultancy can be conducted remotely with regular meetings via Skype/Zoom with Project staff and Communication Team.

The consultant is expected to prepare and submit deliverables by due dates as requested by the Communication Specialist. S/He will have regular interaction with the Communication Team and Project staff, and seek and incorporate their feedback on deliverables. III.       Schedule of Deliverables and Level of Effort (LOE)

This assignment will be done with a total level of effort (LOE) of 31 days within 60 days, based on the break-down in Exhibit 1 below. The assignment will be implemented from July 15 to September 15, 2020.  All progress reports must contain as annexes all information collected or generated during implementation of the relevant activities. All reports are required in English.

IV.          Required Qualifications

Education

At least Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, International Relations, Economics, Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Media Relations, Journalism, Development or related field, required.

Experience and Skills

  • At least 5 years’ experience in writing and editing knowledge, advocacy, impact products.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in advanced producing knowledge and communication products in the area of development, preferably in the supporting areas of the project
  • Excellent writing skills in Vietnamese. Good writing in English is a plus
  • Creative in applying different methods to illustrate procedures, process, data, statistics, fact & figures, etc.
  • Proven experience in working with international organizations (successful experience in working with USAID, INGOs is an added asset)
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize relevant information
  • Ability to coordinate and work in team and independently
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Competent in interpersonal and communication skills in English and Vietnamese
