Organization Profile: Room to Read is a non-government organization working to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, we develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond. Their long-term goal is to help 10 million children to gain the lifelong gift of education.
The overarching aim of the Community Learning Centres (CLCs) in Viet Nam is to empower individuals and promote community development through life-long learning opportunities for all people in the community, particularly for out of school youth and adults. CLCs have been effective delivery mechanisms for literacy programmes as part of the implementation of the National Education for All (EFA) Action Plan and the Strategy for Building a Learning Society in Viet Nam. Furthermore, CLCs have served as coordination mechanisms between different sectors at the community levels in empowering and improving the quality of life for people, particularly for the disadvantaged groups.
