Consultant for Photography and Advocacy

Save the Children started our work in Vietnam in 1990, and implements programs in the key thematic areas: Education, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, Child Rights and Governance, Child Poverty, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Emergency Response. At present, Vietnam Country Office has programs in 22 out of 63 provinces in Vietnam.

We are looking for a Vietnamese national for Consultancy service, with following information:

1. Objectives of the Consultancy

1.1 For photographers and ekip:

  • Design ideas and prepare logistics for the photoshoot session. The shooting concept should be positive, brightly and child-friendly.
  • Most of the photos should show close-up of smiling children’s faces.
  • Taking photos of children with disabilities benefiting from the Child Sponsorship Program in Lao Cai: 10 children or less.

1.2 For the advocacy team:

  • Using information, taken photos and/or videos provided by Save the Children to write news/articles about program’s activities and achievements in both English and Vietnamese.
  • Publish news/articles to at least 5 online newspapers and 2 television channels, including VNExpress, Dantri, Vietnam News, Kenh 14, VTV1, VTV6, VTV4 and other online newspapers/ TV channels related to education, ethnic groups or society which have a huge number of viewers.
  • The journalist can interview beneficiaries (children, family, teachers, community members) and Save the Children staff to collect information if needed.

2. Consultant’s responsibilities:

  • The photography and advocacy team should consist of producer, photographer, stylist and journalist
  • The team will work with our communications staff to develop the script and concept for the photoshoot
  • Taking photos of the children with disabilities wearing uniforms (for example engineer, teacher, football player, fireman, police, etc.)
  • Fully equipped equipment, such as cameras, lightning equipment, voice recorders (if needed), etc.
  • Prepare logistics for the shooting session, including decoration and costumes for the kids.
  • Design/edit the photos before submitting to Save the Children
  • Follow Save the Children’s branding and Child Safeguarding Policy
  • Submit the original and edited photos on time
  • Follow the schedule

3. Expected Deliverables/outputs:

After finishing the photo-taking trip in Lao Cai, Save the Children must have:

  • 15 selected photos for each child
  • Links of at least 5 online newspapers and 2 television channels publishing/broadcasting of the Children with Disabilities intervention within the Child Sponsorship Program
  • The final files for broadcasting on television

4. Duration/Timeframe: 16/7/2018 – 16/8/2018

After signing in the contract, the consultant will have 2 weeks to prepare logistics for the photoshoot. The tentative schedule for the photography trip in Lao Cai will take place in late July or early August.

5. Consultant’s Qualifications:

  • Having background and knowledge in media and communication
  • Having knowledge and strong experiences in taking photo and using photo editing software
  • Having experiences on the impact area (Lao Cai)
  • Ability to follow the schedule
  • The journalist should be influence in English and Vietnamese.
