Consultant Group to Develop Policy Briefs

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a US non-profit, tax-exempt, private organization established in 1895 that saves wildlife and wild places by understanding critical issues, crafting science-based solutions, and taking conservation actions that benefit nature and humanity. WCS has been working in Viet Nam since early 2006 to strengthen the commitment and capacity of the Vietnamese government to combat wildlife trafficking.

The WCS recognizes that anti-corruption is critical in combatting wildlife trafficking. The anti-corruption law adopted in November 2018 will come into effect on July 1, 2019. The dissemination of new law on anti-corruption to government officials, especially law enforcement officers and judicial officers, plays an important role in the fight against corruption in Vietnam. In addition, corruption is considered one of the factors promoting illegal wildlife trade. In particular, Corruption has recently risen up the global wildlife conservation agenda with a series of international agreements highlighting the role of corruption in facilitating wildlife crime. corruption in facilitating wildlife crime.

Therefore, WCS wants to develop policy briefs to:

  • Enhance the support from anti-corruption agencies at national and local levels in research, dissemination of legal knowledge on anti-corruption in general and in combating wildlife trafficking in particular; 
  • Mainstream combating wildlife trafficking into policy and annual action plan on anti-corruption of Viet Nam government.  

A consultant group is being recruited to work with WCS to implement this activity. Please find the attached ToR for more details.
