Consultancy Service on Waste Separation and Composting Practice Assessment

FCM has been the national voice of municipal government since 1901. The Association of Cities of Vietnam is the national voice of 115 Vietnamese cities and towns from category IV upwards. The organization was established in 1992 as the association osf provincial cities/towns and officially decided by the Prime Minister to be the national association of Vietnamese cities

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the Association of Cities in Vietnam (ACVN) have entered into an agreement to jointly implement the Improved Municipal Solid Waste Practices to Reduce SLCPs in Vietnam Project, commonly called the Vietnam Solid Waste Management project (VnSWM). This project is aligned with Canada’s and Vietnam’s commitments under the Paris Agreement to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

This two and a half year project supports two medium-size cities in Vietnam, Bac Giang and Hoi An, to implement innovative pilot initiatives that contribute to the reduction of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) by improving practices in municipal solid waste management. “Short-lived climate pollutants” include methane and other greenhouse gases generated by organic wastes that are not properly managed. “Pilot initiatives” include strategies to reduce, capture and divert organic waste destined to landfills, rehabilitate landfills, treat organic wastes and produce compost.
