I. Background

II. Consultancy service description

1. Objectives

The IBA Vietnam is currently supporting one of our clients in developing sustainable canna (dong rieng) production material zone in Quang Binh province. One of the project goals is to investigate the potential to collect wastes from canna production and processing of local canna producers in the province, process it locally and utilize the resulting compost in the area in which it originated for sustainable canna production. SNV is looking for a national consultancy to provide technical service to develop a standardized procedure at company level to produce organic fertilizer from canna waste used for sustainable canna production.

2. Scope of work

The consultant(s) will fulfil the following tasks, in cooperation with IBA client and under the supervision of IBA Program Manager

  • Provide inputs for trial compost production of 200-500 tonnes of compost from canna production and processing waste;
  • Provide technical advice on the design of trial compost production from canna production and processing wastes;
  • Provide on-site work with site operators for the company from priming to performance tests, and on-going process performance monitoring;
  • Carry out waste inputs/feedstock assessment, and review of operational procedures and parameters to optimise process outputs;
  • Provide any other needed supervision via a combination of site visits and remote support to the outreach team of the company in order to ensure works are being accomplished correctly.

3. Deliverables

  • A standardized procedure on compost production from canna production and processing wastes in Vietnamese

III. Qualifications, skills and experience required:

The consultant and/or group of consultants should meet the following requirements:

  • Having good understanding on canna production; 
  • Experience in providing technical support and advice on the planning, permitting, design, construction and operation of organics recycling facilities processing organic solid wastes;
  • Having experience in delivering training on composting and anaerobic digestion
  • Being fluent in research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative methods);
  • Being able to deliver the committed outputs on time;
  • Having excellent analytical skills and report writing skill in English;
