POSITION SUMMARY:

The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) is a global non-profit organization that leads transformative, community-driven projects in the United States and Asia with a mission to help communities around the world address environmental, economic and social challenges to build a better future shaped and shared by all.

ISC is seeking a Communications Manager to support the implementation of a USAID-funded multi-year multi-million-dollar sustainable manufacturing program in the lower Mekong Region. Aiming to strengthen the lower Mekong region as a competitive and environmentally sustainable manufacturing hub, the program features private-sector engagement to drive the adoption of improved environmental and social safeguards by factories in the food processing, electronics and textiles sectors. The program will focus primarily on Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, with both country-specific and region-wide activities.

The successful candidate will serve as the main focal point for internal and external communications.  S/he will be responsible for collaborating with partners and stakeholders, developing and executing communications plans that support a program portfolio, increasing the visibility of the project work.  S/he will be an experienced communications professional who is capable of advancing communications strategies, creative thinking, a high-level of understanding of audience segmentation and messaging; excellent work ethic, outstanding writing, editing, social media, media relations expertise, project management skills and the ability to thrive as part of a team while working independently.    The ideal candidate will hold, and have demonstrated actions, illustrating the same commitment and values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the development of and implementation of strategic communications plans for the program that supports overarching ISC communications objectives. 
  • In partnership with the program team, other communications staff, and vendors, develops content and manages creative execution to provide consistent, targeted, and impactful messaging for program communications deliverables.
  • Develops and integrates thoughtful, earned media tactics into communications plans; advances strategies to grow the program relationships with media through placement of articles, staff and program partners interviews, stories, etc.
  • Leads the development of content for newsletters, tools, announcements, blogs, etc., and tracks metrics and engagement.
  • Works with program staff, proactively identifies opportunities for ISC leadership to participate in relevant events.
  • Advises program staff on outreach and communications approaches that will help achieve programmatic goals within budget and time constraints.
  • Create and manage digital communication content and media tools for program outreach.
  • Develop and maintain database of media representatives in the region.
  • Assist team in creating/designing presentation templates, reports, banners and other information materials.
  • Conceptualize, organize, and document ISC/MSMA activities and online/on-site events/platforms such as forums, seminars, meetings, and events.
  • Provides recommendations for communications tactics to program partners in alignment with goals; supports partners in the development and maintenance of recommended tactics.
  • Manages relationships, timelines, and strategic approach for external communications consultants (e.g. copyediting, strategic communications planning, etc.)
  • Provides writing and research support for projects to help tell ISC’s story.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in a related area of expertise
  • Ten years of professional experience in communications, marketing, and public relations, or other related field, including nonprofit experience
  • Possess good knowledge of the Mekong countries especially economy, social and environmental issues.
  • Proven experience of organizing events- trainings, forums, workshops etc.
  • Experience executing social media outreach campaigns
  • Ability work productively with diverse individuals from different backgrounds (government, private sector, advocacy, non-profit organizations, and community-based organizations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
  • Strong work ethic and personal integrity.
  • Commitment to the ISC mission and goals
  • Videography and photography skills a plus.
