Communications Intern, Based in Hanoi

In its new Strategic Plan period (2019 – 2022), SNV will more explicitly aim for systems change during project preparation and implementation - by strengthening institutions and kick-starting markets that help many more to escape poverty beyond our projects. We will continue to position ourselves as a premium organisation, with decentralised management. Our Global Support Unit (70 staff) backstops our teams around the world.

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995, and currently has over 40 national and international staff. SNV Vietnam operates from a head office in Hanoi and projects in over 50 provinces in the country, including in the poorest and most remote areas.

SNV Vietnam is currently seeking an intern to provide the office with communications/knowledge management/business development assistance. The ideal intern is a multi-tasker, is reliable and is committed to consistently meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

The ideal Intern will be a Junior with an interest in pursuing a career in PR/Communications. They must possess strong written, research, and personal skills; as well as an active interest in the news (print and digital), Internet, alongside topics in development projects.

Some key responsibilities may be as follows:

  • Assist the Communications Officer in: editing publications and social media posts, drafting/writing internal and external publicity materials
  • Assist in SNV website and social media channels management, updating database, filing and archiving
  • Assist the Business Development Officer in: preparing project concept notes and proposals
  • Auditing organizational filing: ensuring the organizations shared drive is complete and easily navigable to any new staff or external auditors.
  • Providing interpretation and translation if required
  • Logistical support for donors/sponsors visits, events and communication campaigns
  • Other admin and support tasks to the Communications/Business Development team if required

Candidate profile

  • Bachelor's degree related to media and communications/English/or development studies
  • Strong writing skills (English & Vietnamese) are mandatory
  • Communications-related skills with any combination of the following: photography/graphics/video production, computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and online social media and collaborative learning platforms.
  • Excellent translation and interpretation skills (English/Vietnamese)
  • Experience working with an INGO or in development is desirable
  • Willing and being able to undertake some work-related travel to project sites.

Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers a 6-month internship contract with possibility of extension.

Reporting line: Communications/Business Development Officer

Desired start date: As soon as possible
