We are seeking to hire a Communication Specialist for the Vietnam Initiative for Energy Transition Social Enterprise (VIET) at the earliest possible starting date, to strengthen the positioning of the organisation as a broadly recognised think-tank for know-how and dialogue platform on energy system transformation in Vietnam.

About the Vietnam Initiative for Energy Transition

The Vietnam Initiative for Energy Transition (VIET) is an independent think tank with the mission to accelerate the Energy Transition process in Vietnam towards a low carbon economy based on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

Our main objective is to deliver fact-based analysis on key drivers for the energy transition and provide a platform for discussions on technological, economic and policy aspects of the Vietnamese energy sector. We also focus on broader information and communication exchange towards the public and policy dialogues.

Job description: Communication Specialist

The Communication Specialist will be responsible for the comprehensive planning and coordination of Organization’s communications. Reporting to the Executive Director, this is a role for someone with advanced skills in both planning and delivering effective communications. The ability to establish and hold a comprehensive communications strategy, and to roll this out with the buy-in of key
stakeholders, will be vital in moving the Organization’s communications forward in a meaningful and coherent way.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Communications Strategy

  • Responsibility for planning the Communications Strategy for the Organization , including planning how this is to be achieved and setting timeframes and steps for achieving the strategy. Guidance and approval from the Organization’s Leaders will be sought at key stages of process and coordination with stakeholders will also be integral to the success of the process.
  • The post-holder will be accountable for the delivery of the communications plan, acting as coordinator for the key communication areas and working in collaboration with other teams to ensure consistency of message and alignment of content.
  • The post holder will convene and chair a Communications Scheduling Group which manages a shared organization calendar of communications and takes decisions on the timing of messages and use of communication channels.

Publications

  • Responsible for a coherent and planned approach to producing Organization’s abstracts, presentations, studies and publications. Providing editorial support where required and in some cases, project managing the delivery of publications, to ensure consistency of message whilst maintaining the individuality of each publication according to its audience.
  • Within an overall strategy for communications; research, write and publish news stories about the Organization and promote to key audiences.
  • Manage legal issues to ensure that the Organization's research or statement is in accordance with Vietnamese laws.

Digital content creation and management

  • The role will have overall oversight of the Organization corporate presence on social media platforms, overseeing the content creation and planning for all social media activities, with the aim of providing coordination across different channel to utilise this medium more extensively within the brand identity of the Organization. There will be support available on technical matters such as programming or coding from the IT team and from external suppliers to ensure the technical integrity of those channels.
  • Serving as Editor, managing a moderation process which will include other users.
  • Lead the communication team to plan the timing and nature of content, liaise directly with research team to design and develop content based on engagement objectives and strategic communications priorities.
  • Collaborate with third party suppliers (if necessary) to optimize content for digital platforms.
  • Ensuring alignment with overall communications strategy

Media

  • This role will work closely with external media agencies to plan and deliver proactive media relations campaigns, as well as work with them to react to emerging news stories when required.
  • Develop and manage media relations in collaboration with the media agencies and stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the day to day management of the MOU and arrangements with the media agencies (if any).

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Brand Management, Marketing or similar field with 10 years of proven experience;
  • Understanding of the need for and value of a visual identity and branding;
  • Solid professional experience required including experience producing digital content and managing social accounts for a small to medium sized organization;
  • Experience with Judgment and knowledge of global sustainable development, experience in energy sector is preferred;
  • Excellent social communication skills in addition to the high level of written and verbal communication requirements (both in English and Vietnamese);
  • Advanced communication and collaboration skills across a range of audiences including academic, governing bodies, private sectors and the wider public;
  • Good team-working skills, including the ability to build consensus across teams in order to prioritise and manage work load; ability to manage a heavy workload and to deliver to tight deadlines, often unsupervised;
  • An inquisitive journalism spirit, unafraid to ask questions

How to apply

The position is based in Hanoi. Term of contract is 12 months full time after 01 month’s probation period, with a possible extension depending on results. The position is available immediately.
