FFI’s mission is to conserve threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science, and which take into account human needs.  FFI’s strategy to achieve this mission is to work with in-country organisations at all levels to support them in identifying and implementing country led sustainable solutions. 

The FFI Programme in Vietnam is implementing projects to conserve Western black-crested gibbons at Mu Cang Chai Species & Habitat Conservation Area of Yen Bai province and Muong La Nature Reserve of Son La province, Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys at Khau Ca Species & Habitat Conservation Area and Quan Ba district of Ha Giang province, Cao Vit gibbons at Trung Khanh Species & Habitat Conservation Area of Cao Bang province, Cat Ba langurs at Cat Ba National Park of Hai Phong City, Delacour’s langurs at Kim Bang forest of Ha Nam province, Northern white-cheeked gibbons at Pu Mat National Park of Nghe An province, and Grey shanked douc at Kon Plong forest of Kon Tum province.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Start Date:          As soon as possible
Duration:            One year (with possibility of extension based on performance and available funds)
Location:            Hanoi with frequent travel to project sites
Hours of Work:    40 hours per week (full-time)
Salary:                US$550 – US$650 gross/month dependant on skills and experience

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:             Communication/Outreach Officer
Reporting to:       FFI Vietnam Country Director
Line manages:     N/A
Overall objective: To lead development of educational, PR and social media materials and publications, and support awareness raising around FFI’s key species and project activities in Vietnam

MAIN DUTIES:

Communications

  • Manage FFI’s Vietnam Programme Facebook and Instagram accounts including creation and posting of approved content
  • Support the development of additional online and paper communication content for posting and distribution
  • Support the gathering information to update FFI website content and blogs
  • Support the creation and distribution of media alerts, press releases, and photographs
  • Prepare/arrange interviews with media, both national and potentially international
  • Support to design products for sale which promote FFI Vietnam’s work and profile
  • Assist FFI staff to develop blogs, newsletters and media releases
  • Help to create graphic/printed materials for all FFI Vietnam communications and marketing materials
  • Translation of materials relating to communications and marketing between EN and VN
  • Lead on designing and printing FFI annual calendars for local partners

Conservation Outreach

  • Support staff to develop awareness raising materials (posters and leaflets) and ensure they meet the needs identified, receive comments from FFI staff and partners, attain a high level of production quality and meet FFI’s global guidelines
  • Support staff to conduct conservation awareness raising activities, including local community awareness raising meetings, out-door environmental education activities for school-aged children
  • Prepare short reports on conservation raising activities

Other Duties

  • Work with the Country Director and Country Programme Manager to continue developing concepts for building FFI’s profile in Vietnam
  • Undertake tasks in support of the FFI Vietnam Programme that may reasonably be requested by Senior Management Staff 
  • Ensure that activities are conducted to a high level of health, safety, integrity, environmental good practice and cultural sensitivity
  • Ensure that FFI policies and guidelines (including FFI’s style and communication guidelines) are followed within the implementation of the FFI Vietnam Primate Programme
  • Communicate and cooperate fully with the FFI communications team, based in UK

REQUIRED OUTPUTS

General Outputs

  • Quarterly communications reports (internal) / summary of media and press coverage
  • Delivery of activities in accordance with agreed project objectives, budgets and work plans
  • Support the production and printing of FFI project calendars, for dissemination to project partners and local people, as required
  • Education and awareness raising materials / infographics for local schools and communities, as required
  • Develop and coordinate the publishing of press releases, for VN media and on-line outlets, and potentially also international media, as required

Specific Actions / Deliverables

  • Online / social media content and posts (as per the communications strategy and agreed work plan/s), with a minimum of two Facebook posts and one Instagram post per week (to include primate fun facts, FFI Vietnam activities/updates
  • Coordination of the Niso / RuNam awareness raising campaign, and the marketing campaign supported by Publicis Groupe, including support to the design and marketing of awareness raising products, materials and soft toys
  • Coordinate FFI Vietnam’s communications/PR campaign for 2019-2020, focusing on raising local awareness around rare and unique primates, through billboards, other awareness raising materials and partnership development with local hotels and other businesses (such that they champion and support awareness raising for local species). This activity should link to Deliverable 2, in terms of soft toys, etc.
  • Coordinate the development and printing of FFI’s new Vietnam Programme  / Project brochure(s)

  • Marketing and/or PR skills;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • Strong document / communication material design and formatting skills
  • Good skills of facilitation and organization of events;
  • Ability to work with local people and school-aged children.

Knowledge and experience

  • University degree in one of the following fields: Journalism, PR, Media… or related fields;
  • At least three years of working experience in a communication position;
  • Experience working with journalists to achieve coverage in print and online media;
  • Extensive experience of using social media professionally;
  • Experience working with international organisations
  • Experience of working with forest/conservation sector is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of digital media an advantage.

Behavioural qualities and skills

  • Team work skills, with the ability to build positive personal and organisational relationships;
  • Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Self-motivated, able to work alone, and with ability to demonstrate initiative.
