Communication Officer for REAP

SNV Vietnam is looking for a Communication Officer for REAP (Consultancy contract)

SNV is an international not for profit development organisation, funded from public and private sources, working in 36 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. SNV specialises in supporting the resourcefulness of development actors by developing local capacities, improve performance and services, strengthen governance systems, help create access for excluded groups and make markets work for the poor. Our global team of advisors use their specialist sector and change expertise in Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene and REDD+ to facilitate sustainable change in the livelihoods of millions of people living in poverty.

SNVs Reducing Emissions through Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) programme has first been implemented in Vietnam in 2009 and since that expanded its projects to a broader focus on landscape solutions within the agriculture as well as the energy sector. The REDD+ Energy and Agriculture Programme (REAP) contains of four key components, (i) knowledge development, (ii) building SNV capacity, (iii) demonstration through contextualised solutions and (iv) partnerships for impact at scale. Our SNV REAP pilot sites are in Latin America, West Central Africa, Indonesia and Vietnam with focus on a variety of commodities, such as coffee, cocoa, palm oil and aquaculture.

To support our SNV REAP team we seek a Communications Officer who will work closely together with the Global REDD+ Coordinator on the improvement of our online as well as offline communications.

Responsibilities

  • The communication officer will drive a brand led communications strategy that positions SNV within the cross-sectorial areas of REDD+, Renewable Energy and Agriculture as one of the preferred partners to do business with and strengthens the corporate SNV brand by profiling our work in these landscapes. They will also provide support to the wider REDD+ team.
  • Oversee the production and of all Knowledge Products (technical reports)
  • Design and implement dissemination strategy for all Knowledge Products
  • Manage production of professional level publications and key communications materials including reports, briefing papers, knowledge products, brochures etc. Provide editing support.
  • Maintain our social media account on Twitter and help to strategically increase the number of followers
  • Contribute REDD+ content to corporate publications such as the annual report, magazines, brochures, leaflets and video’s
  • Production of info briefs on key landscapes and key commodities
  • Keep updated the SNV REDD+/REAP project track record
  • Provide support to conferences, workshops and events to profile SNV
  • Produce the SNV REDD+ corner newsletter (produced every three months)
  • Manage the SNV REDD+ website and ensure it is up to date with regular news items, relevant publications posted and information on our field based activities
  • Support production of films, videos etc when appropriate
  • Support internal knowledge sharing and profiling of SNV’s work within REDD+ through the internet
  • Assist the Global Co-ordinator and all other project managers with power point presentations and speeches.

Candidate profile

  • Master’s degree or at least Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or any relevant discipline. Professional accreditation is highly desirable
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in communications, at least 1 of which should have been spend working in a role within an international development context
  • SNV experience would be an asset
  • Ability to develop and implement communications strategies, working with a range of staff, consultants and partners
  • Ability to research, analyse, valuate, synthesise and edit information
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills; experience of working in a matrix organisation
  • Excellent communication (writing and oral) skills, presentation skills with experience in profiling an organisation in an international setting
  • Proficiency in IT, with a good understanding of web design techniques and the use of various social media channels
  • An eye for design. Knowledge of photo editing or design programmes is an asset
  • Collaborative, proactive, outgoing and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Fluent in English (preferably native speaker). Working knowledge of French and Spanish is an advantage

Contract duration: One year associate consultancy contract with possibility of extension

Desired start date: September 2014
