Union Aid Abroad (APHEDA) was established in 1984 as the international solidarity, aid & development agency of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). APHEDA is non-profit, secular, & progressive, supporting partnerships for socio-economic development & trade union & labor-based programs in developing countries around the world.

APHEDA is working in partnership with civil social organization, mass organization, trade union and Government to advocate for gender empowerment, promoting labor standards and cancer prevention through the stopping of the import and use of all types of asbestos including chrysotile asbestos

Union Aid Abroad APHEDA has been working with Vietnam partners since its establishment and has maintained a small office in Hanoi since 2004. APHEDA is looking for a qualified staff for the position of Campaign, Policy and Communication Coordinator. This position will work closely with the Country Manager and Regional Ban Asbestos Campaign Coordinator to support communication and advocacy for the organization. In particular the position will focus on our current key advocacy program in Vietnam, the elimination of asbestos related diseases including the stopping of the import and use of asbestos. The position will also support other areas of campaign and advocacy work of APHEDA in Vietnam in regard gender, labour and trade union issues and climate change. .

Communication Duties: The position is responsible for developing promotional and campaign materials for APHEDA Vietnam in cooperation with partner organisations and the APHEDA Vietnam and Sydney teams. Duties cover in particular:

  • Developing and updating communication strategies for key campaigns
  • Producing press releases, articles and media content for key project and campaign activities and events
  • Developing quality media and publication content (text, photos video clips etc)s for information and training materials, websites, print electronic and social media
  • Assist in monitoring mass media related to campaigns and projects.
  • Consulting and collaborating with partners closely on joint campaigns and activities

Project Management: manage implementation of the Eliminating Asbestos Related Diseases Campaign in Vietnam including specifically being responsible for:

  • Managing approved project implementation including;
    • Monitoring project progress
    • Planning with partners
    • Reporting to APHEDA and project supporters/donors (monthly, six month and annual) according to reporting formats, to ensure message and information
    • consistency.
    • Evaluation as required
  • Regular liaison with Vietnam Ban Asbestos Network (VN BAN) Coordinator, VN BAN members and government partners on asbestos awareness and Ban 2020 campaign and contracted activities
  • Coordinating delivery of technical assistance and support to partners, counterpart staff and advisors as required.

Interpreting and Translation

  • Assist with the provision of interpretation (Vietnamese-English) for the Regional Campaign Coordinator and other international staff and advisors as required and time permits.
  • Assist with written translation of project documents as required

Support Services

  • Provide advice foreign expatriate staff and advisers on cultural matters as needed.
  • Assist APHEDA and project partners in organizing trainings and workshops as required.
  • Any other duties as reasonable requested by country manager, Regional Manager and in line with organizational priorities.

Required qualifications, skills and experience:

  • University degree with at least 5 years working experiences on policy advocacy, communication and other related field;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Vietnamese and English;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Experiences on translation of meeting, training, workshop;
  • Proactive and independent work style;
  • Demonstrated skills in working with colleagues and collaborators of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Good organizer.
