Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

Job Purpose

IRRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Southeast Asia (CCAFS-SEA) is hosted by IRRI and is implemented in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and the Philippines. The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) seeks to overcome the threats to agriculture and food security in a changing climate, exploring new ways of helping vulnerable rural communities adjust to global changes in climate.

Under the general supervision of the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Regional Program Leader will conceptualize, plan, and conduct climate change related research studies including activities such as preparation, improvement, and/or development of necessary research tools, data collection, analysis and interpretation. Work closely with collaborating partner (s),exchange information and present research findings (seminars, conferences, publications). Organize and coordinate trainings, meetings, and workshops for CCAFS stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan the implementation of routine experiments, data collection and analysis and other research activities related to the field of Climate Change research activities
  • Provide support in the verification and/or application of Climate Change research techniques/methods that will assist in the implementation of research activities
  • Prepare materials, manpower and equipment needed in the experiments and contribute to the verification and application of methods/techniques that would aid in the successful execution of the experiments/activities
  • Collect, process, and analyze data to ensure that all information are accurate, reliable, and relevant to the study
  • Prepare comprehensive research study outline related to the project
  • Prepare comprehensive research study outline related to the project
  • Prepare allocated budget for CCAFS trainings, meetings and workshops to ensure appropriate spending
  • Proactively provide support to internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient execution of the project goals
  • Coordinate with different collaborating partners to ensure that the research objectives are properly met
  • Provide feedback to the work of research technicians and contract workers to ensure that the research activities are implemented according to the plan and standards
  • Serve as resource person for CCAFS training courses and primary point of information for visitors
  • Contribute to the preparation of research outputs, databases, and other processes related to the research objective
  • Contribute ti the writing of scientific journals and/or web-based publications related to the project
  • Maintain and update database for storage and easy retrieval of information
  • Prepare background documents, program, training materials for CCAFS trainings, meetings, and workshop within and outside IRRI.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Sciences, Climate Change, Development Economics, or other related field
  • Minimum 5 years relevant work experience in applied agricultural researches

Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Has proficient computer skills (e.g. word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Has strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent in Vietnamese and English, both oral and written
  • Has excellent organizational skills
  • Has good multi-tasking skills

Preferred

  • Has experience working with an agricultural research organization
  • Has experience working in an international environment
  • Has experience conducting surveys/researches, analyze and report research findings
  • Demonstrate record of publications and research works

Terms of appointment:

  • This is a Nationally Professional Fixed Term position, based in Hanoi, open to Vietnamese Nationality, with a competitive salary and benefits package.
  • The contract is for a period of 2 (Two) years, with high possibility of renewal, subject to 3 (three) months probation period, assessment of performance and availability of resources.
  • The selected applicant will assume the position expected in September 2019
