SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+.
For Vietnam and Lao PDR, which contain large areas of degraded forest the issue of forest carbon stock enhancement should be an integral part of any National REDD+ Strategy. This project aims to advance understanding of forest carbon stock enhancement as part of any REDD+ Strategy through exploring the technical and economic feasibility of different forest carbon stock enhancement strategies in pilot sites, across Vietnam and Lao PDR. The project will be carried out in close partnership with VNFORESTs.
SNV is seeking a highly qualified candidate to manage pilot sites in Vietnam.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for implementing project activities in pilot sites in Ca Mau Province
- Engage closely and provide support to our national partners; this includes working on project permissions and any technical advice concerning the project
- Conduct site visits, awareness raising workshops and trainings with the local communities and partners
- Provide high level advisory services to the project; in particular around forest restoration and forest carbon stock enhancement
- Support consultants and experts in accessing and carrying  out studies in the sites
- Provide input and attend relevant Provincial and district meetings
- Coordinate with other relevant projects in and around the pilot site
- In collaboration with experts help in designing and introducing locally appropriate schemes to monitor, report and verify emission reductions
- Review livelihood strategies and options with the local communities
- Help facilitate training as necessary for and with partners, beneficiaries, and counterparts
- Work closely with the rest of the project team in Laos and Vietnam;
- Prepare and submit reports and other deliverables to the Project Manager

Candidate profile
- University Degree in Forestry
- At least five years’ experience in implementing or managing field projects in Vietnam    
- Technical knowledge in forestry, forest restoration and forest carbon
- Experienced in training and facilitation; and in the use of participatory planning and monitoring approaches
- Experienced in collection, management and analysis of field data
- Strong skills in working with local communities and local government offices
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and show initiative
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
- Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)

Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers a one-year associate consultancy contract with the possibility of extension and a competitive salary package.
Desired start date: February/March 2012
