Regression Methods in Biostatistics

You are invited you to participate in a training workshop on “Regression methods in Biostatistics” organized by Hanoi School of Public Health

Workshop on Regression Methods in Biostatistics
Dates: March 28 – April 1, 2011
Instructor: Nancy K. Hills, Ph.D. (University of California, San Francisco)

Course Content:
This course reviews the theory and practice of regression analysis, including simple linear regression, multivariable regression, and logistic regression. The course will address multipredictor methods, emphasizing their proper use and interpretation. Techniques will be illustrated using a variety of real datasets. A large part of the course will be devoted to learning to conduct analyses using a statistics package, and to interpret the output from these analyses. Students are encouraged to bring any data they might be interested in analyzing, and may work on these data sets during the course.

Topics covered will include the following:
- Simple linear regression: the population regression line, the method of least squares, inference for regression coefficients, inference for predicted values, and evaluation of the model using residual analysis.
- Multivariable linear regression: the least squares regression equation, inference for regression coefficients, indicator variables and categorical predictors, model selection, confounding, interaction and model checking.
- Logistic regression: the logistic function, interpretation of regression coefficients, the fitted equation, indicator variables, multiple logistic regression, and analysis of case-control studies.
