A practical course to design and manage high quality impact evaluations

Why this course

Today, development assistance places great emphasis on demonstrating impact. Having a logical framework with impact indicators is a first step to design projects with impact in mind.

The next step is measuring that impact in a robust manner with mix of quantitative and qualitative methods. This course will show what impact measurement methods are available, and how to plan and budget for impact assessments.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Know how to select effective strategies for determining causal attribution of your programme impact
    Have an overview of available tools and platforms and learn how to select the right mix of methods
    Be able to specify the information collection and analysis tasks
    Be able to analyse, present and defend robust impact evaluation findings.

Day 1:

  • Basics of quality evaluation
  • Introduction to Impact Evaluation
  • Evaluation types and approaches and methods, evaluation design
  • Preparing for an evaluation – clarifying TOR

Day 2:

  • Qualitative evaluation methods
  • Theory of Change, Outcome Mapping, Most Significant Change
  • Choosing the Most Suitable Methods

Day 3:

  • Quantitative methods
  • Contribution versus Attribution analysis
  • Quantitative Data Analysis, Using Graphs
  • Data collection methods and tools

Day 4

  • Developing Good Questionnaires (online)
  • Formulating recommendations
  • Finalizing Evaluation report
  • Evaluation and Closure
