DEWATS for Urban Environments in Asia

You are invited to participate the conference on DEWATS for Urban Environments in Asia, which will be held in Manila, Philippines from 25 - 28 May 2011, is now open for registration.

Co-organised with the World Bank Water and Sanitation Program (WSP), Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and hosted by the Philippines Department of Health, the conference will feature presentations from around the region on the following DEWATS themes:
- Technology Options
- Developing Institutional and Regulatory Frameworks
- Costs and Economics
- Management and Planning
- Community Aspects
- Promotion and Advocacy
- Sludge and Septage Management
- Up-scaling and Integration

Featuring keynote speakers from ADB, WSP and SANDEC/EAWAG, as well as presentations and case studies of best practices and systems that work, the conference aims to build capacity and enhance awareness about DEWATS as a viable sanitation option to improve sanitation access and service delivery in the region, particularly in urban areas, and provide a cost-effective means of treating wastewater. In conjunction with the conference, the University of Technology Sydney's Institute of Sustainable Futures will also be organising a pre-conference workshop on Cost Comparisons For Urban and Peri-Urban Sanitation Options on 25 May 2011. This interactive workshop will introduce participants to a robust costing method of making a balanced comparison of different scales and technologies, which has been applied to water and wastewater utilities in Vietnam, Australia, Egypt and Oman.
