Workshop on Establishing Action Plan to Adapt to Climate Change in Thua Thien Hue Province (2011-2020)

On April 09, 2010, the Thua Thien Hue Department of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration of Center for Social Research and Development (CSRD) hold a workshop on “Establishing Action Plan to Adapt to Climate Change in Thua Thien Hue Province (2011-2020)” at the Festival Conference Center, 11 Le Loi Street, Hue City.

This event is an important mission of the locality under the National Target Program (NTP) on climate change adaptation which is expected to create the the basis to figure out provincial activities to adapt to climate change in the next period. It is also an activity under the project to adapt to Climate Change and Water Resource Management at Community level (adapts) - Vietnam Case being implemented by CSRD.

In this workshop, there was nearly 50 participants who were representatives of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee; head of Department of Natural Resources and Environment in all districts; other related local agencies; experts in related fields; and local and international non-governmental organizations.
The workshop started with the overview on climate change adaptation. The main content of the National Target Program on Climate Change Adaptation and the results of researches on Climate Change in Thua Thien Hue province, especially the research on adaptation strategies to climate change in Huong river basin conducted by CSRD in 2009 were presented . A plan on General Disaster Risk Management in Thua Thien Hue province in 2020 was also introduced by a representative of the Provincial Flood and Storm Prevention Branch.

Particularly, the draft of Action Plan Framework to Climate Change adaptation in Thua Thien Hue province (2011-2020) was presented at the workshop to raise discussions among participants on this issue. As a result, the workshop has collected many valueable opinions and quite a few participants have committed to positively support to complete and implement this Action Plan.
After this workshop, Department of Natural Resources and Environment will complete the framework plan and submit to Provincial People’s Committee for approval in order to ensure the progress of implementation of the National Target Program on Climate Change and mobilize the resources to carry out activities to minimize and adapt with the impacts of climate change in Thua Thien Hue.
