Short Term Consultant/an Intern to Work on Materials Assortment for APII

1. Introduction
The Avian and Pandemic Influenza Initiative (APII) is a three-year project awarded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to Abt Associates Inc. (Abt) and its partners in October 2009.  The project aims to build the capacity of the Government of Vietnam (GVN) and its counterparts to identify, prevent and control avian influenza outbreaks in both animals and humans.  In addition to national level activities, the project has been working in the five focus provinces: Can Tho, Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Kien Giang, and Quang Tri.
In principle, knowledge management helps assure that knowledge and information are shared by the right people at the right time so they can make good decisions. In the office of APII, we expect to have a friendly-user and retrievable library system that can help people in the office quickly find the knowledge they need and, in the process, save time and avoid duplicating the efforts of others; and to make us aware of new arrivals of books and materials. In addition, we are expected to provide technical leadership to different working groups including BCC working group, acting as a resource for visualizing and mapping materials.

For this purpose, they need to hire a consultant who has expertise and competency to fulfill the tasks as described below.

2. Purpose of the work
The selected intern will work with BCC team, supervised by its technical director to:

- Continue the collection of API BCC materials as part of BCC cataloguing
- Set up a APII library that is friendly used and retrievable

3. Activities required:
BCC cataloguing:
- Review the list of API BCC materials received electronically and in hard copies
- Contact to BCC working group members to make a full list and adequate copies
- Work with focal point person at PAHI to upload these API BCC on the defined web site

APII library
- Arrange books for the office library
- Making index for books linked with a computerized program for easy search
- Develop guidelines on how to use and maintain the library

4. Duration:
June 15 – September 30, 2010, mainly in APII office in Ha Noi

5. Deliverables
- A set of API BCC materials in electronic and hard copies filed
- API BCC electronic files uploaded on PAHI designed website
- A library system for APII staff to maintain with guidelines
