Protecting and Adapting to the Changes of Mekong Environment and Climate Risks
The Mekong River Commission Secretariat through its Environment Division is organizing a Mekong Environment and Climate Symposium to bring together key stakeholders and experts to discuss important environmental issues under the heading: “Protecting and Adapting to the Changes of Mekong Environment and Climate Risks” to be held 26-27 April, in the Continental hotel (near Central Post Office and St. Maria Church), Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.

The objectives of the Symposium are to raise awareness on key environment issues in the Mekong River Basin and to share and discuss new approaches and experiences to promote a sustainable Mekong environment. The announcement and updated tentative agenda are attached hereby.
The Symposium includes an opening session with key note presentations and 5 thematic sessions and comprises about 30 presentations by national, regional and international experts on the following topics:
1. Development of methodology and tools for protection of the Mekong River environment
2. Environmental knowledge sharing for the Mekong River
3. Bridging environmental policy, decision makers and stakeholders on Mekong environmental protection and conservation plans of action
4. Preparedness and adaptive capacity to Mekong environment changes and climate risks
5. Partnership and collaboration for a sustainable Mekong environment
The Symposium will serve as a platform discussing some key environment and climate change issues in the Lower Mekong Basin and will synthesize the information and knowledge for the benefit of the MRC Member Countries in Proceedings of the Symposium.
