Protected Area Officer

WWF, one of the world's largest independent conservation organizations, has a global network active in 100 countries. From its Greater Mekong Programme Office in Hanoi, WWF manages a wide array of conservation projects in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam and Thailand in the forest, freshwater, marine/coastal and species priority areas.

WWF Vietnam Country Programme is seeking an experienced and qualified national candidate to fill the position of PROTECTED AREA OFFICER working full time for a WWF project in central annamite Provinces (Quang Nam & Thua Thien Hue).

Major duties and responsible: 
The position will act as Protected Area Officer for WWF’s conservation work predominantly in Bach Ma National Park and Saola Nature Reserve in Thua Thien Hue Province, the Saola Sanctuary in Quang Nam Province. Work in other protected areas may also be required. This position involves technical support to enforcement activities implemented by these protected areas, planning and management of field activities, logistics and close liaison with protected area staff and relevant government agencies.

The main qualifications required:
- A university degree at Masters level or equivalent in conservation, natural resource management, wildlife management, or similar;
- At least 7 years practical experience in protected area management and managing conservation programmes or projects;
- Experience of working and negotiating with Government officials at all levels;
- Significant supervisory experience, with excellent interpersonal, communication and diplomatic skills with the ability to manage and interact at all levels of an international, multicultural, and multilingual organization;
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Vietnamese
- Must be able to work independently in remote areas for long periods;
- Strong commitment to build capacity in all project staff
- Must have strong leadership and delegation skills;
- Strong biological research and survey skills and experience
- Excellent management, communications, planning and organizational skills.
- Must be able to nurture and promote a team approach;
- Strong report writing and budget management experience
- Very good skills in use of MS Word, Excel, Power Point
- Knowledge of WWF structure, priorities and procedures; as well as WWF's ecoregional approach to conservation.
- Successful proposal development and some fund-raising experience also desirable
- Ability to perform basic field maintenance of project vehicles and equipment
- Ability and experience in data analyzing software as well as Arcview/MapInfo software.
