Hygiene & Sanitation Program Coordinator

Background:
Glocal Ventures, Inc. (GVI) is a US-based INGO that has been working in Vietnam since 2007. GVI’s primary mission is to mobilize short-term volunteers to participate in humanitarian and development projects in Hanoi and Lao Cai province. GVI has a broad range of projects in areas such as medicine, orphanage support, water & sanitation, education and microfinance.

GVI’s water, hygiene and sanitation initiatives are all located in Lao Cai province. GVI’s volunteers have donated funds to build systems that deliver running water to schools and have also installed water filters in many locations. Volunteers also teach good hygiene and sanitation practices in Lao Cai schools.

GVI would like to deepen our volunteer engagement and involvement in our projects, therefore we are seeking a qualified Vietnamese national to serve as our Hygiene and Sanitation Program Coordinator

Position based in: Hanoi with frequent travel to Lao Cai province
Job Summary:
The primary role of this position is to design a long-term strategy to promote and implement effective behavior change in Hygiene and Sanitation in Lao Cai, and to monitor this program by working closely with competent authorities and US volunteers. The Program Coordinator will ensure effective project implementation and achievement of project objectives in close coordination with partners. S/he will work with the Project Director to provide direct support (human resources, equipment donations etc). to local partners. S/he will be responsible for project implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all on-going activities.

Main Duties:
Design a hygiene and sanitation strategy in cooperation with Vietnamese medical institutions and US volunteers that will include:
- School-based training
- Family-based training
- Opportunities for volunteer involvement
- Community involvement, decision-making and ownership

- Maintain close communication and effective liaison between GVI and local partners, volunteers, and other relevant stake-holders
- Provide guidance to partners in the use of the PCM (Project Cycle Management) approach in project planning, implementation, monitoring and documentation
- Provide accurate and timely reporting and perform regular monitoring of projects
- Accompany and assist visiting international volunteers to participate in the project, provide translation and interpretation (English-Vietnamese) when necessary
- Expand and development that project scope by identifying new program strategies and approaches

Qualifications:   
- 2-4 years of experience in the Hygiene and Sanitation sector (experience at an INGO preferred)
- Familiarity with relevant government departments (eg. MARD, CEWASS, etc.) and with National Sanitation targets and goals
- Advanced training and higher credentials in community development, project management and/or public health are an advantage.
- Organized, self-motivated, flexible, has initiative and can work under pressure
- Strong communication skills; confidence in dealing with people of diverse cultural, professional and religious backgrounds; able to work in and contribute to a team atmosphere
- Strong oral/written English skills
- Ability and willingness to travel
