The mission of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance is to support communities to play a full and effective role in the AIDS response. Our vision is a world in which people do not die of AIDS. Since 1994, the Alliance and its partners have supported over 3,000 projects, in over 40 countries, reaching millions of people.
The Alliance China Country Office, based in Kunming, Yunnan Province, has been supporting HIV programming efforts in Yunnan, Guangxi, Sichuan since 2003. The Alliance China office currently provides financial and technical support to 13 partners including 10 location/group-specific projects, in Yunnan, Sichuan and Guangxi, 2 provincial level MSM networks in Yunnan and Guangxi and a provincial level PLHA network in Yunnan. In addition, Alliance China has provided 31 local organisations with technical assistance for HIV-related institutional capacity building.  A key focus of all projects is to build the organisational capacity of civil society groups so that they can receive and manage international funds and implement HIV/AIDS programs more effectively. The Kunming office has 8 members of staff, and also has a branch office in Nanning with 2 staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director has responsibility for achieving the Alliance's strategic, organisational and operational objectives in China.  In collaboration with others, the Director will ensure the following are achieved:
- A strategy that is both responsive to the situation in China and aligned with the International HIV/AIDS Alliance’s strategic framework.
- Management of Alliance China's contribution to the Chinese HIV response in accordance with donor commitments and in coordination with all relevant Chinese and international agencies.
- A strong Alliance of partner organisations in China.
- A motivated staff, working effectively.
- A solid donor profile, with revenue recovering costs.
- A programme making a difference to the well-being of vulnerable people and people affected by AIDS in China.

REQUIREMENTS
The Director will have demonstrated experience as a senior manager in an international setting, broad knowledge of HIV/AIDS programming at community-level, extensive experience in programme development and proposal development.  S/he will have proven staff management skills, and experience managing internal and external relations of an organisation.
