Communication Officer

UNICEF Viet Nam is looking for qualified Vietnamese Nationals to fill the following post:
Post Title: Communication Officer (Advocacy, Media and External Relations)

Summary of the Post:
Under the direct supervision of the Communications Liaison Officer and overall guidance of the UN Communications Manager, assists in the planning, execution and monitoring of the Advocacy, Media & External relations agenda in support of the work of larger One UN Communications team which serves the UN-wide, One UN and specific communications agenda’s for participating agencies, with a specific focus and knowledge on programme areas related to the work of the assigned agency and PCGs.

Major duties and Responsibilities:
1. Delivers input to the development of the UN-wide, One UN and advocacy and communication strategy with a specific focus on programme areas related to the assigned agency and/or PCGs, through the identification and implementation of effective communications strategies.
2. Develops and maintains close collaboration with mass media, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
3. Drafts, edits and ensures quality translations of articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials for both web-based and traditional
media, as appropriate.
4. Prepares background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visits of media, goodwill ambassadors, donors, national committee representatives and other special interest groups. Assists in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for them.
5. Performs different tasks like drafting communication materials, scheduling and overall support to the organization, to help organize and generate public support for special events and activities to promote country programme goals.
6. Monitors the public perception of the UN in Vietnam and the assigned agency/PCG and recommends appropriate action to maintain a positive image for the organization(s).
7. Monitors and evaluates the appropriate and timely dissemination of advocacy and communication materials to target audiences, and participates in the evaluation of their impact. Provides feedback on the use and appropriateness of publications and visual materials.

Qualifications:
- Masters’ degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations; or equivalent professional work experience in the communication area, combined with an university degree in a related field.
- A minimum of two years relevant professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, at either national or international level.
- Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication research, and the role of mass media;
- Ability to research, analyse, evaluate and synthesize information;
- General ability to draft clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form; specific skills in writing press releases and articles/stories for traditional and electronic media;
- Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with media representatives, government officials and other partners;
- Proven ability to work as part of a team;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills;
- Excellent organizational skills, highly disciplined and responsible;
- Ability to plan and work in high-pressure situation under tight deadlines.
- Fluency in English and Vietnamese required;
- Excellent knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft applications. An excellent command of internet navigation, Word Processing, PowerPoint, database search and interactive digital media;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
