U.S. Cisco Helps Danang Develop IT System

Cisco Systems Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding with the central city of Danang on April 22 to upgrade its information technology network. Under the MoU, Cisco will help Danang build a center for researching, developing and manufacturing hi-tech products and train human resources to develop its economy in a sustainable manner. This is a new initiative launched by the World Bank aimed at helping big cities in developing countries to achieve sustainable economic and ecological development.  Cisco and Danang signed a MoU in 2007, under which the U.S. company pledged to help Danang take the lead in applying information technology in the country.

Microsoft to host free one-day training seminar - “NGO Connection Day”

Microsoft is hosting a free one-day training seminar “NGO Connection Day” for NGOs in Hanoi on Tuesday, April 27th at the Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel. 

 

By attending this event, you will gain valuable insight into how your organisation is benchmarked against other similar community organisations in terms of your IT capabilities. 

 

You will learn about free online resources that can be used to better communicate, collaborate and share with your donors, board members and clients, and hear about trends in technology. 

 

Open Call for Applications; Debating & Producing Media Camp (South-East Asia)

The Open Society Institute-Youth Initiative announces an open call for applications for a regional (South-East Asia) youth camp, "Debating & Producing Media." On behalf of the organizing committee, they would like to invite youth residing in Southeast Asia to apply to participant in this event, which will be held on 5th-18th July 2010 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. There is no participation fee, and accommodation and meals are provided for all participants. Limited travel grants are available. Please see details in this document

Vietnam, Microsoft Cooperate in IT Training

The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and Microsoft Group on Mar 18 signed an agreement to continue an IT training cooperation program in the 2010-2013 period. Under the “Partners in Learning” (PiL) program, Microsoft will help local students and teachers access latest IT knowledge and applications in education and teaching, the Ha Noi Moi newspaper reported. Launched in Vietnam in 2005, the PiL program had offered IT training courses for 50,000 teachers and two million students. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a project to bring Internet to all schools by the end of 2010.

Information and Communication Technologies for Development

Through advising, training, and sharing resources and information, the ICT for Development Working Group (ICTDWG) seeks to help NGOs to improve and increase their use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in order to be more effective in their development work in Vietnam.
