Sector Research and Analysis Specialist

The Skills Training for Economic Growth (STEG) is a cooperation project supported by Uniterra in Vietnam in the period of 2015-2020 with a focus on the development of two key economic subsectors: tourism and ICT (Information and Communication Technology).

We are seeking one (1) Vietnamese Sector Research and Analysis Specialist to be based in our office in Hanoi with fieldwork conducted throughout Vietnam. The duration of the position will be from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Uniterra field staff, local partners and a Research and Analysis Team to do analytical research on: economic subsectors within the national economy in general and tourism and ICT in particular;
  • Support the team leader of the Research and Analysis Team in developing guidelines, identifying appropriate research methodologies and/or approaches to capture solid information, data, stories, market analysis, strengths, opportunities and weaknesses in comprehensive reports and case studies;
  • Serve as an interpreter and/or translator for Uniterra Vietnam to gather baseline information, success stories, case studies and market access opportunities and challenges, and to better understand the economic positioning of women and youth;
  • Coordinate the finalization of reports and translate reports (from English into Vietnamese and vice versa) as required by local partners, the research team and the Uniterra program;
  • Collaborate with other Uniterra IT volunteers to deliver training and workshops on best practices in sector research and analysis for local partners (upon request);

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree in international development/studies, project and program management;
  • Minimum 2 years experience in in research and analysis, program/project management, report writing, data collection, case study development;
  • Knowledge in economic development, markets-based approaches, value chain analysis (preferably either in tourism or ICT);
  • Fluent in English with minimum 2 years experience in translation and interpretation;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure;
  • Ability to analyze through a gender lens;
  • Experience organizing and facilitating workshops/training with participatory approaches;
  • Friendly, enthusiastic, responsible, great capacity of adaptation, and good sense of humor;
  • Working experience in multicultural environments (Asian culture is preferable).

Terms and Conditions:

Period: one year contract
Starting date: April 1, 2015
Location: Based in Hanoi with frequent travel to the field.
Salary and Benefits: in accordance with Uniterra rules and policies for National Volunteer.
