Social Work Trainer

Organizational Background:

Research and Training Centre for Community Development (RTCCD) – established in 1996 -  is a local non-government organisation in providing training on, research in, and community interventions for community health development in Vietnam. RTCCD promotes community health development, including early childhood development, nutrition, maternal and child health, health system research and development, community-based mental health, and social work.  

HealthRight International (HR) is a global health  and human rights organization working where health is diminished or endangered by violations of human rights and civil liberties. Reaching out to the most vulnerable and marginalized populations, HealthRight works with local partners to build sustainable access to health care for excluded populations.  

The HR and RTCCD are in collaboration to operate a Social Work Professional Development Centre (SWPDC) which aims to improve the social work skills for people working in social work area to provide welfare and supports to population in need. The SWPDC focuses on offering short-course training courses to social workers and para-social workers in Vietnam.  

RTCCD and HR are  looking for an Vietnamese and experienced candidate to serve as Social Work Trainer, focusing on training in child protection and mental health at the SWPDC.  

Position Information:

Internal Report to:  Nguyen Trong An, Deputy Director, RTCCD
External Report to:   Asia Program Director, HealthRight International       
Contract:     Contract 9 months (January – September 2015)  
and positively extended to the next project phase  
Base in:    Ha Noi with travel to project provinces as needed  

Outline of Role:  

The SW trainer will work with HealthRight’s technical resource team and existing materials to draft, adapt and pilot pre-service and in-service training modules for case workers and social service providers. The SW trainer will also provide ongoing training, mentoring and social work systems development for social work partners in provinces (Provincial Centre for Social Work, Social Protection for People with Mental Illness, Department of Social Work of the University).  

Main Duties: Under the day-to-day management of RTCCD, the Social Work Trainer is responsible for the following task areas:

1.  Develop high quality social work training packages for social service providers based on gaps in existing curricula.  Examples of specific topics could include social work in health care settings, alternative care, child protection, case management, family counseling, strengthening families, addressing alcohol and drug addiction, identifying and addressing domestic violence, etc.,  
2.  Write information for Social Work webpage, training course flyers to partners, training program and invitation letter.
3.  Conduct training courses to social work officials in the government system.
4.  Attend technical meeting groups, conferences and workshop to strengthen professional development of RTCCD staff and systems in social work skills and knowledge.
5.  Develop the monitoring, evaluating and reporting on social service activities, according to the instruction of the Deputy Director in Social Work and Child Protection.  
6.  Manage the participant database, develop questionnaire for training-related surveys, analyze information and write progress report / impact report to donor.  

Selection Criteria:

  • Vietnamese citizenship
  • Graduate degree in social work and/or child welfare, sociology, clinical psychology (if having profound experiences in working with social work and mental health issues);  
  • Previous experience with international or local NGO or aid management organizations;
  • A minimum of five years demonstrated experience in social work practice and/or social work training and development;  
  • Demonstrated skills and practical experience in either one or more of the areas of child protection, public health, social work, mental health, training and advocacy would be a major advantage;
  • Experience in capacity building with national staff and/or civil society organisations;
  • Self motivated, enthusiastic approach to social work development and child welfare services in Vietnam. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Vietnamese and English (please enclose a copy of your English certificate TOEFL or IELTS in the application or quote your scoring obtained in the CV)
