1. Background
Viet Nam is one of the fastest developing countries in the world, achieving annual economic growth of 7 to 9 per cent over the last 15 years. While the economic boom has helped more than halve poverty rates, it has also widened the gap between rich and poor, and many risk being left behind.

Viet Nam’s social and economic changes are not benefiting all children equally, especially ethnic minority children who have fallen behind.  Many of these children live in families that are below the poverty line.

Handicap International France (HI F) is a non-governmental organization created in 1982. HI F’s mission is to assist people in situations of disability or vulnerability, whatever may be the underlying cause and environment. This is done through the implementation of multidisciplinary programs concerning prevention, treatment, empowerment, integration and emergency intervention. HI F has worked in Vietnam since 2001 and is developing projects targeting people living with disabilities, extremely vulnerable persons and persons living with HIV or AIDS.
 

Consultant to Support its Policy and Advocacy Work

UNAIDS Viet Nam is seeking a consultant to support its Policy and Advocacy work to work full time for 233 days during 2009 in Hanoi. The position will support the United Nations Joint Team on HIV in Viet Nam to advocate for national and provincial policies that strengthen the national response to HIV and position the response to HIV in the international context.

Gibbon Survey in Hoang Lien - Vam Ban Nature Reserve Consultant RESERVE CONSULTANT

Background
The Western Black Crested Gibbon (WBCG) Nomascus concolor is one of the most
endangered primates in Vietnam which are distributed in very restrict areas in
Son La, Yen Bai and Lao Cai province. This species is listed as Critically
Endangered in Red Data Book of Vietnam (2000) and Endangered in IUCN Red list of Threatened Species (2004).
In 1999 - 2000, FFI Vietnam has rediscovered the second largest population of
Western Black Crested Gibbon Nomascus concolor in the forest of Van Ban
district, Lao Cai province.  Surveys in 2000/01 conducted by FFI confirmed 14
groups with total about 50 gibbons in Hoang Lien - Van Ban Nature Reserve. Van
Ban was known as the second largest known population of WBCG in Vietnam.
