The EarthRights School (ERS) - Mekong is a unique training program for activists
from the Mekong Region (Yunnan/China, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and
Vietnam) whose work focuses on environmental issues and human rights. The seven
month-long training program uses experiential learning methods to equip participants from the region with skills required to conduct research, gather data, and effectively campaign around environmental issues affecting the region. The training will take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand from June to December. Housing, transportation, and a modest living stipend will be provided to successful candidates.

Australian Scholarships Strengthen Australia-Vietnam Ties
A group of 44 high achieving Vietnamese scholars and professionals have been selected to receive prestigious Australian scholarships and will travel in early 2009 to commence study at Australian universities.

Qualitative Data Analysis
CIHP (Consultation on Investment in Health Promotion) is implementing the Rockefeller funded project "Enhancing capacity of Vietnamese researchers on publishing and dissemination of research on gender and sexuality" (Encourages), which aims to support Vietnamese researchers to produce quality research papers/articles and disseminate them effectively to researchers at national and international levels.
The Training Workshop on "Qualitative Data Analysis" will be conducted in English on December 27 - 29, 2008 in Hanoi.
The project will provide scholarships for participants outside Hanoi.

2009 Youth Essay Competition
As part of CIPE's ongoing effort to reach out to young people, they are pleased to announce the 2009 Youth Essay Competition. The competition is an opportunity for youth around the world to get involved in a global civic discussion on issues that concern them. The contest is open to young people ages 18-30 and has three general topics: Citizenship in a Democratic Society, Educational Reform and Employment Opportunities, and Entrepreneurship & Leadership.
Essays should be 2,000-4,000 words in length and must be submitted by March 1, 2009.

To ensure the effectiveness of group interactions, a voluntary Steering Committee of regular PPWG participants was formed in 2004 to take on a coordination role. The Steering Committee meets regularly throughout the year and helps organise PPWG meetings in the course of the year.
