Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV) on June 6 afternoon received two grant awards totaling $15.5 million from the U.S. Government, local media reported. In a ceremony at the American Center of Ho Chi Minh City, the U.S. Ambassador Ted Osius announced that the first three-year grant worth $7.2 million came from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the second one valued at $8.3 million was awarded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The awards will enable FUV to support admissions and student recruitment policies, help establish financial aid procedures and scholarships, and develop student intake and adjustment programs for the next three years. Ambassador Osius said that this is the first USAID grant award to FUV and underlines USAID’s commitment to the development of Vietnam’s higher education system. The fund from the ECA will be administered to FUV through the Trust for University Innovation in Vietnam (TUIV), a non-profit organization based in Boston responsible for the construction and development of FUV. The university will open its doors to its first Masters degree students this September. The first incoming class of undergraduate students will begin in the fall of 2018.
