“What works to improve education systems and deliver better learning for all at scale in developing countries?”
RISE (Research on Improving Systems of Education) is a new multi-country programme that aims to build understanding of education systems and how they can transform to significantly improve learning. RISE is funded by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, which has allocated £21 million for high-quality research in up to five countries over six years. RISE is a programme which aims to provide the evidence base on education systems needed to improve learning outcomes by:
1. Commissioning exceptional academic research on education systems and systems reform that responds to locally-identified challenges;
2. Engaging with researcher and practitioner consortia to develop an analytic framework to understand how education systems function;
3. Creating a new Systems of Education research network and dialogue; and
4. Ensuring that researchers, teachers, policymakers and other education practitioners globally have access to the most relevant, up-to-date research on the impact of education systems on learning for all.
When can I apply?
Expressions of interest are due by 23 August 2015.
They should not exceed seven pages (11 point Arial font, single spacing), and should include:
· Proposed country of interest
· Proposed system reform(s) to be studied
· Capacity statement of prime research organization and partners, and designated roles of prime and partners
· Illustrative bios of up to three key staff. Potential bidders may include CVs of key personnel in an annex but this is not required.
