VNCERT warns of Conflicker.C attack on April 1
11:47' 30/03/2009 (GMT+7)

VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Computer Emergency Respond Team (VNCERT) has
asked the media to warn the public of the possible attack of virus Conflicker.C
on networked computers on April 1.

VNCERT has realized a big risk related to the spread of this virus on the
Internet. Conflicker.C is the follow-up version of the Conflicker virus, which
hit millions of computers using Microsoft Windows operating system that were not
updated yet.

According to this agency, Conflicker.C is very dangerous and it can create a
bogus network to attack any computer networks or nations or attack the data of
millions of personal computers in the world, including Vietnam.

This virus can neutralize security software, prevent users from updating the
latest versions to correct errors and prevent users from having access to
websites of security software producers and related organizations.

VNCERT said that this risk is increasing and the attack will boom in the next
few days, starting on April 1.

The agency has combined with Internet service providers, the Vietnam Internet
Network (VNNIC) and anti-virus software providers to take measures to prevent
this virus. It also warned organizations and individuals to do the followings
tasks to protect themselves:

- Update Microsoft Windows, anti-virus software and take a full scan of
computers
- Conduct a backup of computers
- Conduct backup and encode important data
- Consider using anti-Conflicker software of Bit Defender provided at
http://www.bdtools.net or the software of Symantec.
- Provide information about Conflicker.C for VNCERT through
http://vncert.gov.vn/ir.html
